Resumen: En este trahajo profimdizamos en el conocimiento del profesor de matemáticas de secundaria sobre el contenido matemático volumen. Presentamos una evolución histórica de este concepto, basada en la búsqueda de relaciones entre volúmenes de cuerpos utilizando estrategias de descomposición. Seguimos las propuestas de Euclides, Liu-Hui y Cavalieri, poniendo de manifiesto las dificultades principales que se derivan del uso de los métodos de descomposición, entre las que cabe mencionar la necesidad de justificar procesos infinitos para relacionar volúmenes de cue1pos elementales (como la pirámide y el prisma). Proponemos que esta profundización se aborde en la formación inicial de profesores de matemáticas, como información necesaria a partir de la cual el profesor de secundaria puede construir dimensiones didácticas del conocimiento matemático.
En los programas de matemáticas no hay ningún tema en donde se enseñen juegos como el billar. Hace algunos años a los alumnos de nivel medio superior o universitario que frecuentaban los billares, se les llamaba "vagos". Sin embargo el billar tiene mucho que enseñarnos. Dependiendo si consideramos a una bola de billar, como una bola real, o como un rayo de luz o como una onda sonora, se confronta uno con diferentes aspectos del mismo tema, la manera en que objetos rebotan sobre una superficie. Un pequeño momento de reflexión sobre esto produce una lista enonne de tópicos donde se aplican los billares: acústica, comunicación, energía solar, sonar, radares, óptica, sismología, deportes, etc ... Actualmente se están desarrollando muchos aspectos matemáticos de los billares.
