El presente trabajo ofrece una reflexión sobre algunos aspectos relacionados con las prácticas de violencia filioparental ejercida por hijos e hijas adolescentes y el consumo de sustancias psicoactivas. Se parte de una exhaustiva revisión documental, identificando los factores que pueden desatar actos de agresión hacia los padres, madres o familiares ascendentes, priorizando en el consumo de sustancias psicoactivas como vehículo que fija unas formas particulares de conflicto en la relación padres e hijos. Se concluye que la violencia filioparental y el consumo de sustancias psicoactivas son fenómenos conexos, que en reiteradas ocasiones permanecen ocultos y se hacen manifiestos tan solo cuando se pone en riesgo la dinámica y la estructura del sistema familiar. La investigación cobra relevancia de cara a los diferentes retos que deben afrontar los profesionales de la psicología y otras ciencias de la salud, en el marco de la intervención sobre las relaciones de poder y control que involucran a las familias del siglo XXI.
