Introducción: con el capitalismo los servicios de salud oral son considerados mercancías de consumo privado y los odontólogos medidos por su competitividad/productividad. En Colombia las empresas privadas se han apropiado en gran parte del mercado de los servicios odontológicos, contratando mediante el modelo de flexibilización laboral a odontólogos capacitados en el ámbito clínico-asistencial, en la rentabilidad empresarial y con “perfil comercial”. El objetivo de este estudio fue describir la situación laboral de odontólogos trabajadores de Instituciones Prestadoras de Servicios de salud privadas en Bogotá. Materiales y métodos: estudio descriptivo de corte transversal; participaron 35 odontólogos egresados entre 2011 y 2016 de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Se diseñó un cuestionario con 35 preguntas cerradas de opciones múltiples con única respuesta; el cuestionario fue sometido a “validación de Fachada” por tres expertos. Los resultados codificados y analizados utilizando el programa estadístico STATA. Resultados: el 71,4% de participantes es contratado mediante orden por prestación de servicios, el 20% de ellos tiene ingreso menor a USD 247.86 mensuales, con jornadas laborales de 36 a 48 horas semanales. En cuanto al nivel de formación y las funciones realizadas el 28,6% se encuentra muy insatisfecho y el 48,6% insatisfecho. Conclusión: la situación laboral del grupo de participantes se traduce en multiempleo, vinculación laboral mediante contratos por orden de prestación de servicios, ingresos bajos, jornadas laborales extensas, escasa o nula garantía de prestaciones sociales e inestabilidad laboral. Emplearse como odontólogo en esas condiciones termina siendo la única opción debido a la poca oferta laboral, la necesidad de ingresos para sobrevivir y pagar deudas.
