A physical model based on similarity principles has been constructed for simulating the RH degasser of Companhia Siderú rgica de Tubarã o (CST), Vitó ria, ES, Brazil. The influence of gas injection through nozzles in the upleg with simultaneous bottom injection of gas, as well as the influence of nozzle blockage, on the circulation rate has been investigated. In addition, mathematical relationships for mixing characteristics in the process have been evaluated.
IMPROVING TUNDISH SEQUENCE LENGHT OF IF-TiSULC STEEL GRADES AT ARCELORMITTAL FLAT SOUTH AMERICA AbstractWith the aim of improving castability and increasing sequence length of IF steel grades at ArcelorMittal Tubarão, some practices and process modifications were carried out in both steel refining and casting areas. The relationship between Aluminum and Titanium with lower tendency of clogging was improved. A titanium stabilized ultra-low carbon steel with higher production volume was chosen to start the tests. Altogether, new practices were adopted for production. Steel samples were taken from heats produced under this new condition and have been sent for analysis at ArcelorMittal Research USA. The quality was monitored, and it was observed improvements in quality index in both hot-rolled and cold-rolled products. In this work it will be presented a summary of actions taken at ArcelorMittal Tubarão, which resulted in an increase in the average sequential tundish length for IF steels. The sliver index with this new practice also hit historic low level.
