SELEÇÃO DOS ESTUDOS: a estratégia de busca empregou, na Medline, as seguintes combinações dos termos MeSH: "Meta-Analysis" [Publication Type] AND "Evidence-Based Medicine"[MeSH] Limits: Publication Date from 2000 to 2007, Humans, Systematic Reviews.
Purpose: To summarize the main findings from research on structured abstracts. Methods: A narrative review of all the relevant papers known to the author was conducted. Results: Authors and readers judged the structured abstracts to be more useful than traditional ones. In 1987 the Ad Hoc Working Group for Critical Appraisal of the Medical Literature proposed guidelines for informative seven-headings abstracts. In 1990 Haynes et al. reconsidered the structured abstract of clinical research and review articles and proposed revised guidelines. Nowadays, most abstracts are informative, and the most commonly used structure is IMRAD (Introduction, Methods, Results And Discussion) format. Conclusions: There are many variations in the structured-abstract formats prescribed by different journals. But even in recent years, not all abstracts of original articles are structured. More research is needed on a number of questions related to the quality and utility of structured abstracts. Key words: Abstracting and indexing. Review literature. Comissão de avaliação de exercício profissional Types of abstractsSince its origin in 1665, the scientific paper has been through many changes, but method description only developed during the second half of the 19th century. In the course of the 20th century, the formal established Introduction, Methods, Results, And Discussion (IMRAD) structure was adopted. 1 The proposed structured abstract, that is, abstract that describe a study using content headings, provided more informative content. Except for the title, the abstract is the part of a scientific paper that will be read by the most people. 2 The basic purpose of abstracts is to summarize the contents of articles so that readers can decide whether to read them. It is the only part of an article that many journals will make accessible through search engines. 3 Indicative or descriptive abstracts deal with the content...
The FIM was used in several scenarios of healthcare for the elderly, particularly in rehabilitation and outpatient clinics or health centers.
The authors present an evidence-based case report of a patient with agenesis or pseudoagenesis of the dorsal pancreas.
The process of indexing consisted of two phases: firstly, to identify and represent the intellectual contents of a document; and secondly, the translation of the subject analysis into a specified languague, with the aid of subject headings. At the Instituto de Doenças do Tórax da UFRJ medical library, the indexing of biomedical journals and theses was performed through a controlled vocabulary - the DeCS (Subject Headings on Health Sciences). The purpose of this study was to identify if the authors of Master Degree thesis on respiratory diseases were using the DeCS for indexing. The subject headings of 29 Master theses from 1990 through 1996 were studied. The data collection showed that 29 authors employed 101 subject headings (3,48 headings/author). Four (14%) of authors utilized adequate subject headings from the DeCS. In conclusion: fourteen per cent of authors of Master theses on respiratory diseases employed correctly the subject headings
The aim of this study is to perform a narrative review of systematic reviews of diagnostic tests accuracy. We undertook a search using The Cochrane Methodology Reviews (Cochrane Reviews of Diagnostic Test Accuracy), Medline and LILACS up to October 2009. Reference lists of included studies were also hand searched. The following search strategy was constructed by using a combination of subject headings and text words: 1. Cochrane Methodology Reviews: accuracy study "Methodology" 2. In Pubmed "Meta-Analysis" [Publication Type] AND "Evidence-Based Medicine" [Mesh]) AND "Sensitivity and Specificity" [Mesh] 3. LILACS (revisao sistematica) or "literatura de REVISAO como assunto" [Descritor de assunto] and (sistematica) or "SISTEMATICA" [Descritor de assunto] and (acuracia) or "SENSIBILIDADE e especificidade" [Descritor de assunto]. In summary, the methodological planning and preparation of systematic reviews of therapeutic interventions are prior to that used in systematic reviews of diagnostic tests accuracy. There are more sources of heterogeneity in design of diagnostic test studies, which impair the synthesis - meta-analysis - of the results. To work around this problem, there are currently uniform requirements for diagnostic test manuscripts submitted to leading biomedical journals.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
