Hepatitis G virus/ GB virus C is a novel flavivirus recently detected in hepatitis non A-E cases. In this study, the presence of this virus in chronic non-B, non-C hepatitis patients was evaluated using GBV-C specific PCR and this virus was detected in one out of thirteen patients. This patient has presented a severe liver failure, has lived for a long time in the Western Amazon basin and no other cause for this clinical picture was reported. The impact of the discovery of this new agent is still under evaluation throughout the world. The study of the prevalence of this virus among chronic hepatitis patients and healthy individuals (as blood donors) will furnish subside to evaluate its real pathogenicity.
Essa lei define as diretrizes da prevenção e atenção integral à saúde das pessoas portadoras de hepatites no âmbito do Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS). O problema das hepatites no Brasil tem números expressivos. Em relação à hepatite B, cerca de 15% da população brasileira já foi contaminada e 1% é portadora do vírus. No caso da hepatite C, temos, aproximadamente, 1,2% de portadores crônicos, e em ambas as hepatites a prevalência é maior nas regiões mais carentes em assistência médica, como a Amazônia legal. Ao todo, acredita-se que cerca de 5 milhões de brasileiros são portadores de hepatites e que, se não tiverem acesso efetivo ao tratamento, poderão evoluir a estágios finais da doença. A dimensão do problema torna-se maior quando sabemos que a disseminação tem aumentado significativamente em todas as classes sociais e que a maioria dos pacientes não sabe que está contaminada. Esta lei torna o poder público responsável pela coordenação do programa, definindo estratégias de divulgação, critérios para o diagnóstico, acompanhamento da doença e capacitação técnica de pessoal, além de promover a notificação e, principalmente, assumir as despesas decorrentes de todos esses processos através da dotação orçamentária nas três esferas do governo. Esse tipo de ação do governo é extremamente louvável e, embora saibamos que muitas leis no Brasil não conseguem ter o efeito desejado, esperamos que a Lei 11.255 consiga ser colocada em prática. Mas para sua eficácia será necessária a participação efetiva de toda a sociedade civil. A Sociedade Brasileira de Patologia Clínica/Medicina Laboratorial(SBPC/ML), como sociedade científica, não medirá esforços para ajudar na promoção dessa e de outras atitudes que busquem a melhoria do padrão de saúde de todos os brasileiros.
