Con 18 Figure (Tavole 7 e 8).Le variazioni di livello, spesso anche rilevanti, che a volte subiscono i laghi artificiali, non portano di solito cosi profonde modificazioni dell'ambiente biologico come quelle avvenute nel lago di Nemi, presso Roma, in conseguenza del suo parziale svuotamento eseguito cia1 1928 a1 1932 peril recupero delle due navi romane in esso affondate.Tra gli altri esempi del genere il piu noto 6 quello del lago di Rittom in Svizzera, che nel1917 venne abbassato di circa 30 m. siii 45 originari per l'utilizzazione delle acque a scopo idroelettrico.Naturalmente questa eccezionale esperienza idrobiologica non poteva passare inosservata, come non lo era stata quella del lago di Rittom le cui vicende furono accuratamente seguite da Collet e da' altri studiosi. I1 lago di Nemi si trovava anzi nella privilegiata condizione di essere ben conosciuto, specialmente dal lato zoologico, per gli accurati e sistematici studi fatti dal D'Ancona e dalla V o l t e r r a D'Ancona proprio negli anni immediatamente precedenti l'abbassamento di livello, e per quelli di Pavesi (1889), di R i z z a r d i (i894) e di Wolt e r e c k , oltre i lavori di indole geografica di M a r i n e l l i (1896) e di D e A g o s t i n i (1898).Prima del 1928 queste erano le caratteristiche morfologiche del Iago di Nemi, che B situato in un apparato craterico del gruppo vulcanico dei colli Albani: altezza sul mare m. 318, superficie Kmq. 1,67, larghezza massima Km, 1,3, lunghezza massima Km. 1,75, perimetro Km. 5,5, profondith massima m. 34, media m. 19,5, volume delle acque circa 32,5 milioni di mc. I1 bacino imbrifero, limitato all'ampiezza del cratere, B di Kmq. 10,5.
