ABSTRACTConcerning animal behavior studies, ethogram is the fundamental tool for understanding this trait in less studied species; it is also used to compare behaviors from different populations from the same species. The aim of this study was to describe the behavioral patterns of Myiopsitta monachus (Boddaert, 1783) in the natural environment. A population was observed in a forest fragment in Manoel Viana/RS-Brasil municipality throughout two periods of 20h each in two different seasons (autumn and spring in 2015) a total of 40 hours. Observations were performed using the animal focal and snapshot (or instantaneous sampling) methodologies with the aid of binoculars (30 x 55mm) and a digital photographic camera (Fujifilm Finepix S4800 with an optical zoom of 30x). All behavioral acts displayed by those individuals were thoroughly observed and described. An ethogram representing 15 actions detected was made; all actions were grouped into five categories: maintenance, locomotion, nesting, socialization, and vocalization. Concerning seasonality affecting behaviors displayed by M. monachus, it was verified that there was no variation in behavior between the two seasons tested (t=0.189, p=0.850). It is possible to verify a great resemblance of the behavioral acts displayed by M. monachus with the other Psittacidae species.
