Objective: to understand how the rural older adults promote their autonomy in active aging. Method: qualitative research through the Paulo Freire's research itinerary, consisting of three steps: area of research; encoding and decoding; and critical unveiling. Seventeen older adults living in the rural area of a municipality in Southern Brazil participated in the research. Six culture circles were conducted from July to December 2016. Results: the investigation revealed two generating themes: joint pain and participation in groups. The understanding of autonomy promotion for the active aging of older adults is focused on the physical capacity and independence of activities of daily living. Final considerations: the culture circles have promoted reflection moments for the participants, especially about the advantages and difficulties related to the practice of autonomy in the exercise of citizenship for active aging in the rural area.

This study aimed to learn about the conditions of access to health services that seniors living in rural areas have, as well as their satisfaction. This is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory research conducted in a municipality located in the southern region of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It included 19 elderly individuals registered in three Basic Health Units organized in the form of Family Health Strategy. Data were collected between July and August 2018 through semi-structured interviews, which were analyzed based on Minayo's operational proposal. Afterwards, two categories were defined: "Access to health services used by elderly residents of rural areas" and "Satisfaction with health services used by elderly residents of rural areas". Concerning access, many are the difficulties faced, such as long distances to be traveled until arriving at a health service, poor road conditions, limitations related to public transport days, timetables and itineraries, lack of human and material resources, and long waiting time to make appointments with specialists and schedule exams through the Brazilian Unified Health System. As for satisfaction, the main complaint of the elderly participants refers to issues involving, above all, health management and work process, such as delay in making health care appointments, although most participants reported being satisfied with the care provided by health professionals. It is worth noting that learning about the conditions of access to health services used by elderly people living in rural areas and their satisfaction contributes to the planning, implementation, development and evaluation of public health actions, programs and policies.
Method: this is a bibliographical study, type integrative, carried out in the MEDLINE, LILACS, Web of Science, Scopus and SciELO virtual libraries. The original qualitative studies, available in full and published between 2013 and 2017, were considered. Data on location and year of publication, objectives, methods and results were analyzed. The results were presented in the form of figures. Results: eight studies published in international journals were analyzed, resulting in the categories. Conclusion: it is verified that the health knowledge of the elderly living in rural areas is fragile, mainly, in the identification of risk factors and signs and symptoms of diseases and injuries. Health attitudes and practices reveal the difficulty of adherence / understanding of health promotion actions and prevention of diseases and injuries, possibly due to a lack of culturally congruent care. Objective: to understand the health-disease-care process of the older adult living in rural areas. Method: a qualitative research study from the perspective of Madeleine Leininger's Theory of Diversity and Universality of Cultural Care, carried out with the participation of 19 older adults living in the rural area of a municipality in southern Brazil. Data collection took place in July and August 2018 by means of semi-structured interviews and simple observation. And data analysis was performed following Laurence Bardin's Content Analysis proposal. Results: the conceptions of health and disease of the older adult living in rural areas are mainly related to the ability and inability to perform the activities of daily living and work, especially with the land and animals. We highlight the care practices of older adults living in rural areas with regard to the use of medications, food consumption and the practice of physical exercise. In addition, the notion about their health condition and the capacity for self-management and adaptation to the challenges of the health-disease-care process. Conclusion: the health-disease-care process of older adults living in rural areas is influenced by social and cultural factors of the context in which they are inserted. This suggests the planning, implementation, development, evaluation and (re)formulation of health policies, programs and actions focused on providing culturally congruent care, which encompasses more than the singularities of the rural area, in the sense of dichotomy in relation to the urban area.
