This article is a systhematic literature review including the period from 1994 to 2009, whose objective was to discuss the aged woman's vulnerability in relation to Acquired Imunodeficiency Syndrome (Aids). The search for scientific texts was accomplished in the following databases: Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SciELO), Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE). The descriptors used were vulnerability, woman and Aids. Eighteen texts were analyzed, including articles in scientific journals, thesis and dissertations. As a conclusion, it was noted that aged women and vulnerability to Aids are directly related, through gender characteristics including submission and that were built historical and socially. We consider as fundamental the development of studies which may generate publications accessible to women, in order to help them see themselves as persons vulnerable to Aids contagion just for being women.
Objective To discuss remote activities in nursing education in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic for strengthening nursing from the perspective of the “Nursing Now” campaign. Method Theoretical-reflective study based on literature and critical analysis. Discussion Reflection about the measures to control the COVID-19 pandemic and suspend in-person classes, the adoption of alternative forms of teaching, especially online ones, and their repercussions on nursing teaching strategies. There were difficulties regarding the quality of education, unequal access, and lack of knowledge from professors. Final considerations The negative impact that emergency distance teaching had on the education of nurses stands out, in contrast to the world movement for the valuing of nurses. The legacy of this crisis must be taken advantage of through the better use of technological resources and their incorporation in teaching, having as a certainty that the distance teaching model does not encompass the totality of nursing education.
Palavras-chave: Enfermagem obstétrica; parto humanizado; recém-nascido; índice de Apgar.ABSTRACT Objective: to compare the association between Apgar scores of neonates whose mothers used only non-invasive obstetric nursing care technologies during labor and those whose mothers received traditional care. Method: in this retrospective, cross-sectional study of 6,790 records of childbirth attended by obstetric nurses between September 2004 and December 2011, logistic regression was used to assess the likelihood that exposure to these non-invasive technologies contributed to better Apgar scores as compared with other types of care. Results: neonates whose mothers used any of these non-invasive technologies returned higher percentage Apgar scores, in both the 1st (93.41%) and 5th minute of life (99.01%), as compared with those whose mothers underwent traditional care procedures (82.78% and 94.74%, respectively). Conclusion: the Apgar score odds ratio of > 8 is increased in favor of those who used only non-invasive obstetric nursing care technologies. Keywords: Obstetrical nursing; humanized childbirth; new-born; Apgar score. ABSTRACT: This is a descriptive piece of research, with qualitative approach, which aimed at analyzing the interaction process of women with the diagnosis of Human Papilomavirus (HPV) infection in the context of screening for cervical cancer. The research was conducted in 13 communities in the municipalities of Duque de Caxias and Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, from 2006 to 2008. Research participants were 20 women diagnosed with HPV infection related to high oncogenic risk by hybrid capture. Semi-structured interviews were used for data collection. Symbolic Interactionism and Grounded Theory frameworks guided data collection and analysis. Results showed the important sphere of self-interaction, in which predominant significance lies on having to cope with an unquestionable reality determined by the HPV-infection condition. To those women, that disease imposes unexpected changes in life which are hard to cope with.
The aim of this study was to know the meanings attributed by female health professionals to the process of caring for women with HIV, considering their vulnerability in the context of feminization of HIV/AIDS. It is a qualitative study based on the grounded theory method and symbolic interactionism, conducted in two public maternity hospitals in Rio de Janeiro, from November 2009 to April 2010. Data were collected by means of semi-structured interviews with twelve female health professionals. The core category that emerged was "Speaking as a Professional and Thinking about Caring" which focused on the meaning of care, and the integration of two categories, the first being the concerns of being a woman/professional caring for women with HIV and the second being the meanings of professional care provided to women with the virus. It was concluded that the professionals still maintained the former perception of HIV/AIDS, contributing to increased gender vulnerability to HIV, discrimination and prejudice.
