Durante a pandemia da gripe influenza A (H1N1) no ano de 2009 foi bastante discutido nos meios de comunicação a respeito das medidas básicas necessárias para reduzir o contágio dessa doença. A condição para diminuição dos casos está diretamente relacionada aos hábitos da população. Além da H1N1, existem outras doenças com a mesma forma de transmissão, como a tuberculose e o sarampo, o que aumenta ainda mais a importância da manutenção de hábitos de higiene saudáveis. Desta forma, o objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar os hábitos de higiene de estudantes de medicina da Faculdade de Medicina de Campos após a pandemia de Influenza A (H1N1). Para tal realizou-se um estudo descritivo envolvendo 180 alunos do 1º ao 4º ano dessa instituição. As principais variáveis analisadas foram: sexo, lavagem das mãos em diferentes situações, lavagem das mãos após utilização do toalete, forma de lavagem dos alimentos e como é realizada a lavagem das mãos. Verificou-se que 3,3% dos estudantes utilizam apenas água durante a lavagem das mãos, 47% relataram usar apenas água no preparo de alimentos e 8,8% declarou lavar as mãos entre 1 e 3 vezes por dia. A partir dos dados obtidos pode-se verificar que parte dos estudantes de medicina não realiza medidas básicas na prevenção de doenças infectocontagiosas. Isso demonstra uma preocupação, uma vez que, esses futuros profissionais precisam estar conscientes da importância da lavagem das mãos, principal veículo de transporte de bactérias e vírus para os pacientes e para o próprio médico.
