Na perspectiva dos estudos filológicos, o artigo apresenta uma edição semidiplomática de um manuscrito da Bahia colonial e analisa seus aspectos paleográficos e sócio-históricos relativos à saúde mental. Trata-se de um ofício do século XVIII, pertencente ao acervo do Arquivo Histórico Ultramarino, no qual o Vice-rei do Estado do Brasil, 10º Conde de Attouguia, registra o processo de adoecimento psíquico de um agente público da Coroa portuguesa e o seu consequente internamento. Discute-se sobre a importância da correta decifração e transcrição do texto, para o que se faz necessário, tanto o conhecimento do seu contexto de produção e circulação, como a utilização de um referencial transdisciplinar que dê conta da leitura e interpretação da fonte selecionada. No desenvolvimento do estudo, utilizou-se um referencial teórico-metodológico transdisciplinar que integrou a Filologia, a Paleografia, a História cultural, a Terminologia e a Socioterminologia. Para o desenvolvimento da edição, parte-se de um conjunto de normas previamente definidas e explicitadas ao leitor, visando produzir uma edição confiável, que possa se prestar a outros estudos, a exemplo dos linguísticos, literários e históricos. O estudo além de discutir algumas das características da escrita colonial, confirma o caráter estigmatizante que a doença mental já possuía naquele período, evidenciando práticas excludentes, violentas e preconceituosas, revelando a origem de questões sociais e sanitárias que vigoram até os dias atuais.
