ABSTRACTBenign transient hyperphosphatasemia of childhood is a harmless clinical condition without exactly determined etiology, characterized by 3-50-fold increase in serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels, generally encountered in children under 5 years old. Patients have no evidence of bone or liver disease. However, clinicians and families may feel uneasy about this excessive increase. Increased ALP values spontaneously return to normal levels within 2-6 months in most of the cases. In this report we present a 3,5 year-old boy with serum ALP levels rised up to 2679 IU/L, determined incidentally during an acute episode of gastroenteritis. In our case serum ALP values returned to normal levels within 3 weeks.
