El estudio de los mercados bursátiles constituye un tema prioritario en el contexto actual, dada su contribución al desarrollo económico y financiero al facilitar la transferencia de recursos del ahorro hacia la inversión. En ese orden de ideas, el presente artículo analiza comparativamente la hipótesis de eficiencia del mercado en la forma débil de los índices bursátiles de Colombia, Chile y Perú por medio de la aplicación de cuatro pruebas estadísticas a las series de rendimientos en el periodo 2008-2014. Se encontró que los retornos de los tres mercados presentan raíz unitaria, mostrando la presencia de eficiencia informacional en el sentido débil. Lo anterior implica que no es posible para ningún agente económico rea-lizar predicciones sobre los precios de las acciones transadas en ellos, utilizando únicamente información histórica de las cotizaciones.
Este estudio analiza la relación entre las prácticas de Gobierno Corporativo (GC), el desempeño empresarial y la valoración de mercado de compañías mexicanas. Se analizó́ una muestra de 35 firmas que componen el índice IPC de la Bolsa de México durante el periodo 2014 a 2018, por medio de la implementación de técnicas de análisis econométrico del tipo panel de datos no balanceados. Los resultados obtenidos evidencian que el índice GDS empleado en este estudio se correlaciona de manera positiva con la rentabilidad de las empresas, estimada a través del ROE; adicionalmente, los niveles de endeudamiento financiero y total de las empresas analizadas tiende a crecer cuando estas mantienen buenas prácticas corporativas. Por último, no existe una relación estadísticamente significativa entre el índice de gobierno GDS y el valor de la empresa, representado por la Q de Tobin. Estos hallazgos revisten alta importancia para los investigadores de la gobernanza corporativa y son parcialmente consistentes con investigaciones recientes en la materia.
La literatura financiera y la evidencia empírica en los mercados globales señalan que aquellas compañías que gestionan adecuadamente sus grupos de interés fortalecen y divulgan sus políticas de gobierno corporativo, alcanzan mayor efectividad en su funcionamiento institucional. En el contexto de un mercado emergente, este artículo estudia la relación de la calidad de las prácticas de gobierno corporativo con la valoración, apalancamiento y desempeño financiero de empresas colombianas durante el periodo 2008-2018. A partir de la teoría de la dependencia de recursos y de agencia se establecen predicciones sobre las relaciones entre las variables de interés. Se examinaron empresas que cotizan en la Bolsa de Valores de Colombia y se empleó un índice de Bloomberg para medir la calidad de las prácticas de gobierno corporativo. Se utilizaron modelos de regresión en un panel de datos no balanceado incluyendo efectos fijos de tiempo y empresa. Los resultados indican que existe una relación positiva entre el índice de gobierno corporativo y las medidas de valoración y desempeño financiero de las empresas, y negativa frente a la medida de apalancamiento total. Estos resultados revelan que las buenas prácticas de gobierno corporativo conllevan un mejor funcionamiento al interior de las empresas, lo que se refleja en una mejor performance en el mercado a través del tiempo.
La sostenibilidad corporativa se ha consolidado como un enfoque de liderazgo y gestión efectivo para configurar un entorno de confianza, transparencia y plena información necesario para fortalecer la integridad de los negocios y el bienestar, especialmente en regiones como América Latina, donde la mayoría de los países dependen en forma creciente del compromiso del sector privado frente a la sociedad. En ese sentido, el artículo, estudia la relación entre la calidad de las prácticas ambientales, sociales y de gobernanza (ESG) y el desempeño financiero de largo plazo de empresas colombianas que cotizan en bolsa. Se hace uso de información histórica de carácter público, obtenida de Bloomberg, comprendida entre 2008 y 2018. El análisis econométrico se desarrolla a través de panel datos no balanceados. Los resultados revelan que las buenas prácticas ESG adoptadas por las firmas nacionales conllevan un mejor funcionamiento en su entorno y frente a sus grupos de interés, lo que se refleja en un mejor desempeño empresarial en el tiempo
