-The aim of the study was to assess the interference and determine the economic threshold level of beggartick damage on bean crops. Treatments consisted of bean cultivars (IPR Uirapuru, BRS Supremo, BRS Campeiro, Fepagro 26, BRS Esplendor and IPR Tuiuiú) submitted to competition with ten beggartick populations. We evaluated plant population, leaf area, ground cover and shoot dry mass of beggartick. Dry mass of shoots of beggartick fitted better to the hyperbolic model, and grain yield losses due to beggartick interference were estimated satisfactorily by this model. BRS Esplendor and IPR Tuiuiú were more competitive than the others in the presence of beggartick. Sowing of BRS Esplendor, IPR Tuiuiú and Fepagro 26 increases the level of economic damage, justifying the adoption of control measures only for higher densities of beggartick. Increase in grain yield, commercial price of beans, herbicide efficiency and reduction in control cost decrease the threshold level for weed control, justifying application of control measures for lower densities of beggartick. The results allowed concluding that the management methods of weed ryegrass must be adopted in the period between 11 and 21 days after crop emergence, which is described as a critical period of control of this weed. The wheat grain yield loss competing with ryegrass reached 59% when grown with ryegrass. For ETL, the linear regression model of the rectangular hyperbola adequately estimates grain yield losses in the presence of ryegrass. The cultivar presenting the lowest values of ETL, that is, less capacity to live with the weed, was TBIO Alvorada. The other cultivars presented similar ETL values.

Corn stands out among the cultivars because of its high importance in food, animal feed and raw materials for energy production. The quantity and quality of the harvested grain can be reduced, mainly due to inadequate weed management. Nowadays, weed control is accomplished with the use of herbicides as pre-emergence and postemergence, applied alone or in a tank mix. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of the control of weeds and phytotoxicity of the herbicides that were applied in tank mix or isolated in the corn hybrids, Formula TL ® and SYN 7B28. Two experiments were conducted: in the 2012/2013 season (Formula TL ® ) and 2013/2014 season (SYN 7B28). There was a low initial phytotoxicity of all the tested herbicides in the initial evaluation; however, from 14 days after treatment, it was minimal. The weed control of Ipomoea indivisa, Urochloa plantaginea and Euphorbia heterophylla in both experiments was better, in general, when using the tank mixtures of atrazine + simazine + tembotrione and atrazine + simazine + mesotrione, respectively. The application of atrazine + simazine + tembotrione in the SYN 7B28 hybrids provided, with the exception of the thousand-grain weight, the best expression of grain yield components, combining a low phytotoxicity and best control of the weeds. The Formula TL ® hybrid presented the highest mass of a thousand grains and yield with the application of nicosulfuron + tembotrione. The yield average difference of the herbicide treatments and the unweeded control showed an increase of 27.66 and 34.59% in the grain yield of the corn hybrids, Formula TL ® and SYN 7B28, respectively. -The objective of this paper was to identify alternatives for the chemical handling of weeds that infect wheat, as well as verifying the phytotoxicity of herbicides on the crop. The experiment was carried out in randomized blocks, organized in a factorial design of 2x 13, with four repetitions. The wheat crops were allocated to factor A (Quartzo and Pioneiro) and the herbicides to factor B (iodosulfuron -0,100 kg ha -1 ; imazapic + imazapyr -0,140 kg ha -1 ; clomazone 0,800 L ha -1 ; imazethapyr + imazapic -1,250 L ha -1 ; propanil -6,000 kg ha, plus two controls, one weeded and another one infested. Iodosulfuron, propanil, oxyfluorfen, metsulfuron-methyl, 2,4-D, cyhalofop-p-buthyl, penoxsulam and pyroxsulam cause values inferior to 5.5% of phytotoxicity to wheat crops and, in general, they did not differ from the weeded and infested controls. The greatest phytotoxic effects were caused by imazethapyr + imazapic, clomazone and imazapic + imazapyr on the wheat crops. The application of iodosulfuron, imazethapyr + imazapic, imazapic + imazapyr and pyroxsulam presented elevated control percentage of ryegrass, with rates above 95.5%. Imazethapyr + imazapic, clomazone and imazapic + imazapyr presented the greatest phytotoxicity on the wheat crops. Iodosulfuron, imazethapyr + imazapic, clomazone and imazapic + imazapyr and pyroxsulam showed the best controls for ryegrass. Iodosulfuron presented lower influence on the components of wheat grains yield when compared to the other herbicides. Resumo -O azevém é uma das principais plantas daninhas que infesta a cultura da cevada, ocasionando elevadas perdas de produtividade e da qualidade dos grãos dessa cultura. Diante disso, objetivou-se com o trabalho, identificar possíveis alternativas para o manejo químico de azevém infestante da cevada, bem como verificar a fitotoxicidade de herbicidas sobre os componentes de rendimento da cultura. Para tanto foi instalado um experimento, a campo, em blocos casualizados, arranjados em esquema fatorial 2 x 12, com quatro repetições. O fator A foi constituído pelos genótipos de cevada (MN610 e Crioula) e o B pelos herbicidas (iodosulfuron; imazethapyr + imazapic; clomazone; propanil; oxyfluorfen; metsulfuron-methyl; 2,4-D; cyhalofop-p-butil; penoxsulam e pyroxsulam), mais duas testemunhas uma capinada e outra sem capina. O genótipo MN610 apresentou elevada sensibilidade ao clomazone e ao imazethapyr + imazapic, tendo seus componentes de rendimento de grãos afetados negativamente na presença desses produtos. Já o genótipo Crioula, apresentou-se mais tolerante ao iodosulfuron, propanil, pyroxsulam, imazethapyr + imazapic, clomazone e oxyfluorfen, com menor redução nos componentes do rendimento da cevada. Os herbicidas aplicados podem, dependendo do genótipo, reduzir os componentes de rendimento da cultura, o que consequentemente afetará a produtividade de grãos da cevada. O iodosulfuron apresentou a melhor resposta para o controle de azevém, mantendo a cevada livre de planta daninha, aliado a uma menor fitotoxicidade a cultura. Thus, this work intended to evaluate the selectivity and efficacy of herbicides for weed control in barley. For such, we carried out an experiment in the field with randomized block design in factorial scheme 2 x 12, with four replications. Factor A is composed by the barley genotypes MN610 and Criola and factor B by herbicides: iodosulfuron imazethapyr + imazapic; clomazone; propanil; oxyfluorfen; metsulfuron-methyl; 2,4-D; cyhalofop; penoxsulam; were allocated pyroxsulam, weeded and infested. The use of herbicides for bean crop desiccation aiming seed production, is an alternative management because it allows harvesting when the seeds present high vigor, germination and dry mass, however this technique can cause damages to the seeds. The objective of this study was to evaluate the physiological quality of bean seeds, of the Carioca type, with the application of desiccant herbicides doses at different periods, aiming at the anticipation of the harvest. The bean plants, Pérola cultivar, were desiccated when the seeds had 42 and 30% water content, with ammonium glufosinate, saflufenacil and diquat at doses of 0, 50, 75 and 100% in relation to the recommended average dose for desiccation, respectively for each of the herbicides. The control treatment without desiccant application was harvested on the same date as desiccation. The additional treatment, also without desiccant application, was harvested only when the seeds had a water content of 18%. The variables analyzed were germination, first germination count, germination speed index, cold test, accelerated aging, seedling and radicle length, and dry mass. The herbicides applied in the first period (42% water), at the highest doses, impair the physiological quality of the seeds, and the seeds with water contents of 30 and 42%, without the use of desiccants, promote high vigor and germination. Satisfactory results were obtained when the saflufenacil herbicide was applied in period 2 (30% water), using 50% of the recommended average dose of this herbicide.

The crop yield is related to several factors, among these, soil tillage, soil compaction and crop rotation. This study aimed to evaluate the winter cover crops and crop rotation influence on soil physical properties and grain yield of dry beans, maize and soybean for two growing seasons. Three experiments were conducted, corresponding to dry beans, maize and soybean crops. It was used the randomized block design with three treatments and four replications consisted by 3 × 10 m plots. The treatments were: two cover crops systems and crop rotation in no-till, and the control, consisting of winter fallow and conventional tillage. The cover crop dry matter, soil physical properties and grain yield for dry beans, maize and soybean in the two growing seasons were evaluated. Crop rotation systems and cover crops showed a trend to increase maize and soybean yields. Crop rotation in no-till increases soil compaction in the superficial layer compared to conventional tillage, but does not reduce the dry beans, maize and soybean yields.

-The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of reduced doses of the commercial mixture composed of fluazifop-p-butil + fomesafen, applied for the management of common weeds in beans. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized block design, with a 5x2+1 factorial arrangement and with four replications. In factor A, there were five percentual doses (100, 87.5, 75.0, 62.5 and 0.0%), in relation to the recommended commercial dose (2 L ha -1 ) of fluazifop-pbutil + fomesafen, which corresponded to 2.00; 1.75; 1.50; 1.25 and 0.00 L ha -1. Factor B was composed by two development stages of black beans (three and eight trefoils) and weeds: black-jack (two to four and four to eight leaves) and southern crabgrass (two leaves to one tiller and one to four tillers) with one weeded control treatment. The variables evaluated for the control of black-jack and southern crabgrass were: herbicide phytotoxicity to the crop, number of pods per plant, number of grains per pod, 1,000 grain weight and grain yield of the crop. The results demonstrated that the use of fluazifop-p-butil + fomesafen, at all evaluated doses evaluated and application periods, caused low phytotoxicity to the crop, less than 12%. The use of reduced doses of this herbicide presents efficient control of black-jack and southern crabgrass, mainly at the initial development stages of these weed species.
