INTRODUÇÃO: A meningomielocele (MMC) é uma malformação do sistema nervoso, sendo considerada um defeito no fechamento do tubo neural. As crianças com MMC necessitam de acompanhamento contínuo e com uma equipe multidisciplinar trabalhando de forma integrada com a família, pois as mesmas necessitam de cuidados como nutrição, higiene, estímulos de crescimento, entre outros. Os cuidadores de portadores da MMC sofrem transformações em várias áreas da vida, como emocionais, econômicas e sociais. OBJETIVO: Apresentar por meio da literatura científica os principais desafios familiares e a qualidade de vida de pacientes pediátricos diagnosticados com mielomeningocele. Introdução: Cuidados paliativos (CP) são intervenções de saúde direcionadas para os pacientes que possuem sua qualidade de vida comprometida devido à doenças e agravos à saúde. Tem o objetivo de através de orientações aumentar a qualidade de vida do paciente, reduzindo tais sintomas e demais aflições consequentes de alguma enfermidade, favorecendo assim a autonomia do enfermo e dando suporte aos familiares e/ou cuidadores. O Acidente Vascular Encefálico (AVE) é um sério problema de saúde pública que ocorre em decorrência do déficit definitivo ou momentâneo do fluxo sanguíneo na região cerebral, podendo culminar no desenvolvimento de lesões; a doença pode ser classificada em dois grupos: isquêmica ou hemorrágica, impactando, deste modo, nas funções neurológicas e interferindo na qualidade de vida do paciente. Objetivo: Observar, na literatura científica, a atuação da equipe multiprofissional frente a abordagem paliativa direcionada para o controle de sintomas decorrentes do acidente vascular encefálico. Metodologia: Trata-se de uma revisão Integrativa da literatura, realizada nas bases de dados: LILACS, MEDLINE, IBECS e SCIELO, através do cruzamento dos Descritores em Ciências da Saúde: "Cuidados Paliativos"; "Acidente Vascular Encefálico", "Equipe Multiprofissional". Critérios de inclusão: artigos disponíveis na íntegra, nos idiomas português e inglês, que abordassem a temática, publicadas nos últimos cinco anos; e como critérios de exclusão: literatura cinzenta, artigos científicos que não contemplavam o tema da proposta do presente estudo e pesquisas repetidas nas bases de dados. Resultados: A abordagem paliativa no contexto da minimização dos sinais e sintomas decorrentes do Acidente Vascular Encefálico torna-se de grande importância para o paciente e para seus familiares, visto que em consequência das sequelas ocasionadas pela doença, os enfermos possuem dificuldade em participarem ativamente da tomada de decisões a respeito dos cuidados ofertados, necessitando de interlocutores que apresentam suas vontades e desejos. Com isso, os familiares, interlocutores dos pacientes, beneficiam-se do auxílio e do apoio proveniente da equipe multiprofissional, sendo orientados acerca de todo o trajeto terapêutico do paciente; além do auxílio ofertado com o intuito de diminuir a ansiedade, angústias, medos e expectativas que surgem devido à doença. As intervenções paliativas visam promover estratégias de promoção de saúde com o intuito de contribuir para uma melhor qualidade de vida tanto do paciente quanto para seus familiares, que estabelecem uma rede de apoio e cuidado ao paciente. Por meio da avaliação precoce e do monitoramento contínuo dos sintomas sociais, psicológicos e físicos experienciados pelo paciente, das orientações adequadas, do tratamento farmacológico e não farmacológico, torna-se possível contribuir com a diminuição dos fatores que impactam negativamente na qualidade de vida do doente.
