O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar como os sentidos e a memória dos enunciados “Cidade das Rosas” e “Cidade dos Loucos” se movimentam, se confrontam e se integram à ordem discursiva de Barbacena. O município, que serviu de palco para a criação do Hospital Colônia, onde milhares de pessoas foram internadas como “loucas”, também se tornou famoso pelo cultivo de flores e rosas. Como resultado, a cidade foi apelidada com os dois adjetivos. Para alcançar o objetivo desta pesquisa, foi selecionado como corpus cinco fotografias atuais da cidade, divididas a partir da identificação das sequências discursivas as quais elas pertencem. A análise está embasada teórico-metodologicamente na Análise do Discurso Materialista, principalmente nas contribuições de Orlandi (1999, 2003, 2007ª, 2007b, 2014), no que diz respeito à análise de como as cidades produzem sentidos e Lagazzi (2015), na compreensão de que as imagens são materialidades significantes. O trabalho permite a identificação de que há silenciamento dos sentidos de ‘Cidade dos loucos”, cuja circulação acontece, de forma mais expressiva, nas margens do município. Por outro lado, no centro, busca-se, de modo sistemático, ressaltar a sequência “Cidade das Rosas”. No entanto, embora haja silêncio, os dois sentidos coexistem, se movimentando e integrando a ordem do discurso da cidade.
O presente artigo busca discutir a relevância do texto literário nas aulas de língua inglesa, atentando-se para um trabalho que visa a identificação social e cultural dos aprendizes com a obra. Nesse sentido, o corpus formado pelo poema “The Burglar of Babylon” (1965), da poeta estadunidense Elizabeth Bishop, foi utilizado no estágio supervisionado do curso de licenciatura em Letras Português/Inglês e suas Literaturas, cujo foco se pautou na utilização das literaturas de língua inglesa. Os objetivos que permeiam o artigo são os de despertar o interesse pela leitura literária de textos provindos de países e culturas anglófonas; promover a interação e a identificação cultural/social entre o texto e o sujeito; instigar o desejo do aluno acerca das literaturas de língua inglesa e, possivelmente, gerar interesse pela aprendizagem da língua. A metodologia adotada acompanha as etapas das aulas lecionadas, priorizando uma análise detalhada de todos os momentos. Inicia-se a análise a partir do momento de recepção da obra, seguindo até o momento de produção feita pelos próprios alunos. A pesquisa comprova a relevância de se explorar o texto literário em língua inglesa como ferramenta que fomenta o interesse dos aprendizes, aliando o interesse pela leitura literária e pela língua cuja obra foi escrita.
O principal objetivo deste artigo é analisar discursivamente as canções banidas All I wanna do (is make love to you), da banda estadunidense de rock Heart, e Physical, da cantora de pop Olivia Newton-John, mostrando como seus enunciados se voltam para questões como liberdade sexual feminina e enfraquecimento de expectativas de gênero. As análises se deram por meio dos Estudos Foucaultianos do Discurso (1999; 2014; 2020), considerando, principalmente, o conceito de poder (FOUCAULT, 2020; BOURDIEU, 1983; 1989). Concluímos que as canções citadas foram banidas em uma tentativa de enfraquecer a circulação dos enunciados contidos, para que se evite práticas não-discursivas vinculadas a eles, mantendo subjetividades e promovendo uma perpetuação de poder entre determinados grupos.
