Software Ecosystems are comprised of a technology platform, business models, internal and external developers, and engaging users. The popularity of smartphones brought along the mobile software ecosystems, such as iOS and Android, which are composed of a platform, a community of users and developers, mobile applications, and online application store, and evangelists that often promote the ecosystem. Given the recent nature of the topic, this paper aims to revisit the state-of-the-art through a systematic literature mapping. We found 63 publications on the topic of mobile software ecosystems that were categorized by year (almost 50% of the publications are from 2015 and on), by author (a few collaboration clusters were identified), and by the mobile ecosystems characteristics (most publications discuss business or technical aspects) and elements (applications and the platform are the most discussed topics followed by the developers and the users). Our results provide an up-to-date map of the topic for those interested in mobile software ecosystems.

Mobile software ecosystem (MSECO) is a new software development paradigm for mobile technologies, having three main dimensions, namely: Technical, Business and Social. The literature has a considerable number of studies on technical and business dimensions, but only a few studies focus on the social aspects of MSECOs. However, the literature has enough to provide evidence that the actors involved, such as developers, are crucial to an MSECO. This study aims to complement earlies studies by describing new social factors that influence developers to work in a MSECO. We conducted a systematic literature review in order to identify these new factors, and a field study in which 20 developers were interviewed to understand how these factors can influence them to join or keep participating in a MSECO. We found that developer become more rigorous to continue participating then to adopt a MSECO.

The global pandemic of COVID19 demanded that professors rethink teaching strategies considering the use of online environments due to the social isolation stipulated to reduce the rate of contagion of the disease. A challenge for software engineering professors is to develop fundamental professional skills in students who are in the process of learning using these virtual environments. The purpose of this study is to identify how an online educational hackathon can support students of a Software Engineering program to develop professional skills. We also seek to understand how intense collaboration takes place between student teams, considering the digital context for the production of a technological solution. We conducted a Case Study on an educational hackathon that took place in the online context, collecting data through questionnaires, interviews, and observations. As some results, the skills that students most considered that this hackathon helped them to develop were communication, initiative, and creativity/innovation, among others. Also, the strategies of collaboration adopted by the students during this competition, considering the remote context. Therefore, the main contribution is the identification of how the realization of this event supported students to develop professional skills and to practice collaboration skills with each other. Teaching Software Engineering is not a trivial duty since several pedagogical strategies can be used and sometimes the impact of these on students is uncertain. Hackathons are similar to marathons, however used to produce solutions to solve a specific problem in a short period of time and based on intense collaboration. Educational hackathons aim to promote learning in such an environment. The Undergraduate computing programs of PUCRS decided to use a hackathon as a pedagogical strategy aiming to motivate the students to practice the adoption of software development practices and to work in groups as a means to practice the development of social skills. Therefore, we conducted a case study to investigate: 1) The motivations to students to attend or not attend an educational hackathon, 2) The students perceptions about this hackathon, 3) The Software Engineering practices adopted by students. In this study, we identified factors that may affect students motivation to participate (e.g., improve the teamwork skills), some students expectations about the hackathon (e.g., work in teams), and the practices adopted by the students (e.g., pair programming). Some of our findings include that students enjoy participating in an informal educational environment (e.g., hackathons) to improve their technical skills and to build network with some colleagues. This study can provide insights to teachers that wants to organize some activity than traditional teaching and the students perspective about this kind of strategy.

Mobile Software Ecosystem (MSECO) is the kind of ecosystem in which developers build applications to attend the users of mobile technologies (e.g., Android and iOS). In an MSECO, the developers are responsible for the creation of new software solutions, and this drives the ecosystem profits. Therefore, we aimed to identify which business factors are considered important to developers and how they affect them to participate in an MSECO. To do so, we conducted: i) a Systematic Mapping Study to reach the MSECO studies regarding developers' motivation; and ii) a Field Study to verify the findings based on interviews with 20 developers of mobile technologies. As a result, we found 12 business factors (e.g., Market Opportunities, Distribution Channels) that affect developers to adopt and participate in an MSECO, as well as some opinions about each factor. As an output, we aim to support developers regarding which factors may become important to them through the opinion of these business factors by other developers. The Software Evolution area brings applications to the Mobile era in which users want to use these applications on their mobile devices. A Mobile Software Ecosystem (MSECO) is the kind of ecosystems in which developers build applications to attend the needs of mobile technologies users (e.g., Android and iOS). Literature explains that the capability to attracting and retaining people (i.e., developers and users) is essencial to MSECO sustainability, i.e., to the MSECO survive along the years. In a previous work, we conducted a literature review that identified 6 factors that may influence developers to participate in an MSECO. In this study, we present a Field Study aiming to understand how these 6 identified factors may have influenced practitioners in real life projects.

Diversos estudos na área de Educação em Engenharia de Software expressam as dificuldades ou desafios de aprendizagem de estudantes, ou como os estudantes reagem a uma nova abordagem de ensino utilizada pelo professor. Assim, poucos estudos exploram as dificuldades ou desafios enfrentados pelos professores de Engenharia de Software, especialmente quanto às tecnologias e materiais que eles poderiam utilizar para aumentar o interesse dos estudantes. Uma constante dificuldade dos professores de Engenharia de Requisitos é a preparação de aulas interativas, pois esta disciplina demanda a internalização de conceitos que geralmente são expostos em forma massivamente teórica, o que pode causar o desinteresse dos estudantes por esta disciplina. O objetivo deste trabalho é propor um repositório que possui um sistema de recomendações que apoie o professor de Engenharia de Requisitos a identificar os jogos mais adequados para utilização em sua sala de aula, de acordo com as suas necessidades e recursos disponíveis ao professor. Para isso será elaborado um ambiente inteligente, alimentado por professores de Engenharia de Requisitos com jogos para apoiar práticas educacionais, onde os professores poderão avaliar cada jogo publicado no sistema, bem como escrever sugestões para seu uso. Nesta tese, serão realizados diversos estudos, como Estudos de Caso, Revisões de Literatura e avaliação de protótipos, entre outros, para entender as demandas dos professores, propor um sistema de acordo com suas necessidades e avaliar sua eficiência no apoio aos professores. A maior contribuição esperada ao final desta pesquisa é um repositório inteligente sobre o uso de jogos nas disciplinas de Engenharia de Requisitos, que irá providenciar os jogos mais recomendados para o professor de forma inteligente.

Ecossistemas de software (ECOS) móvel são os ecossistemas nos quais os desenvolvedores interagem para a criação de aplicações móveis para atender aos usuários das plataformas relacionadas. Nesta pesquisa, buscou-se a identificação de como a dimensão de negócio pode impactar na decisão de participar de um ECOS ou em sua carreira. Para isso, conduziu-se os seguintes estudos: i) um Mapeamento Sistemático da Literatura para identificação destes fatores de negócio; ii) um Estudo de Campo para verificação de como estes fatores influenciam as decisões dos desenvolvedores quanto à sua participação em um ECOS; e iii) um novo Estudo de Campo com evangelistas para a identificação de forças, fraquezas, oportunidades e ameaças que a dimensão de negócio traz para os desenvolvedores. Como resultado, identificou-se 12 fatores que podem influenciar os desenvolvedores, como cada um destes pode impactar a participação dos desenvolvedores e o entendimento das maiores forças, fraquezas, oportunidades e ameaças em um ECOS móvel.
