Sistemas de saneamento descentralizados em áreas escassamente povoadas pode promover abastecimento de água potável, simplificado e a baixo custo. O Instituto de Acolhimento e Recuperação Eterna Misericórdia (IAREM), em Lavras-MG, é uma associação civil, sem fins lucrativos, que acolhe cerca de 60 homens em situação social precária. Nesse sentido, objetivou-se avaliar a situação da qualidade de água de abastecimento proveniente de poço subterrâneo e propor melhorias visando garantir fornecimento de água potável de qualidade. Foram coletadas amostras dos poços semi-artesiano e artesiano e em três pontos de consumo do IAREM, no período seco e chuvoso. Foram realizadas análises de potabilidade de água segundo os padrões de potabilidade da Portaria 2914/2011 do Ministério da Saúde . Para amostras positivas de coliformes termotolerantes, realizou-se ensaios de desinfecção por meio de radiação UV. Observaram-se valores médios de Manganês e coliformes termotolerantes acima dos padrões estabelecidos pela Portaria MS 2914/2011. A desinfecção por radiação ultravioleta mostrou-se eficaz na inativação de coliformes termotolerantes para uma lâmina de 20 cm e 120 s de exposição em ensaios experimentais. No entanto, a cloração também é sugerida também como alternativa para o processo de desinfecção da água de abastecimento do IAREM.

A qualidade da água é aspecto indispensável quando se trata dos seus principais usos e, em especial, o abastecimento humano. Visto que a água para consumo humano é um dos importantes veículos de enfermidades diarreicas de natureza infecciosa, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo correlacionar casos notificados de diarreia e a qualidade da água potável consumida pela população de um município localizado no sul de Minas Gerais. Foram avaliados laudos de análises de água feitas pela secretaria municipal de saúde ao longo do ano de 2017. Os parâmetros avaliados foram pH, turbidez, cloro residual, temperatura, coliformes totais e Escherichia coli. Dados registrados de doença diarreica aguda no Sistema de Vigilância Epidemiológica foram interpretados. Foram registradas violações do limite legal para turbidez e casos positivos para coliformes totais, o que representa um risco sanitário. Durante o período, foi notificado 01 surto e 959 casos de diarreia. Para que a população receba água efetivamente potável, faz-se necessário o controle de todas as etapas do tratamento, além do armazenamento da água nos reservatórios domiciliares de forma adequada. Condições adversas no armazenamento doméstico da água podem estar relacionadas à ocorrência de casos registrados de doença diarreica aguda no município estudado.
A contaminação por cobre está relacionada com rejeitos de mineração e a agricultura sendo que um dos contaminantes é o fungicida sulfato de cobre. A fitorremediação tornou-se uma possibilidade muito viável, com baixo custo de implantação e resultados satisfatórios. E neste processo são utilizadas espécies vegetais na recuperação de ambientes contaminados. Este trabalho objetivou: a verificação da eficiência das espécies vegetais Chrysopogon zizanioides e Cyperus rotundus na absorção de cobre; a redução da quantidade de cobre no solo tratado; o tempo necessário para o efeito das plantas na redução da concentração de cobre, e analisou parâmetros físicos e químicos do solo tratado. O experimento foi realizado em três blocos inteiramente casualisados, com diferentes concentrações, com base nos valores orientadores de qualidade, prevenção e intervenção estabelecidos pela CETESB. Foram coletadas amostras, de solo, raízes e partes aéreas das plantas, e estatisticamente, foram catalogados os resultados de eficácia do tratamento.
