Pairwise geometric histograms have been demonstrated as an effective descriptor of arbitrary 2-dimensional shape which enable robust and efficient object recognition in complex scenes. In this paper we describe how the approach can be extended to allow the representation and classification of arbitrary 2 89 and 3-dimensional surface shape. This novel representation can be used in important vision tasks such as the recognition of objects with complex free-form surfaces and the registration of surfaces for building 3-dimensional models from multiple views. We apply this new representation to both of these tasks and present some promising results.
Abstract. The double-mode pulsation of GSC 00144-03031 has been detected when searching for COROT targets. A very large dataset composed of 4722 photometric measurements was collected at six observatories in Europe and America. There is no hint of the excitation of additional modes (down to 0.6 mmag) and therefore GSC 00144-03031 seems to be a pure double-mode pulsator, with a very short fundamental radial mode (P = 84 min). From uvbyβ photometry and evolutionary tracks it appears to be a Pop. I star with M = 1.75 M , located in the middle of the instability strip, close to the Zero-Age Main Sequence. We also discovered other new double-mode pulsators in the databases of large-scale projects: OGLE BW2_V142, OGLE BW1_V207, ASAS3 094303-1707.3, ASAS3 000116-6037.0, NSVS 3234596 and NSVS 3324715. An observational Petersen diagram is presented and explained by means of new models. A common sequence connecting Pop. I stars from the shortest to the longest periods is proposed and the spreads in the period ratios are ascribed to different metallicities (at the shortest periods) and to different masses (at the longest ones).
A two-dimensional (2D), cylindrical, periodic surface lattice (PSL) forming a surface field cavity is considered. The lattice is created by introducing 2D periodic perturbations on the inner surface of a cylindrical waveguide. The PSL facilitates a resonant coupling of the surface and near cutoff volume fields, leading to the formation of a high-Q cavity eigenmode. The cavity eigenmode is described and investigated using a modal approach, considering the model of a cylindrical waveguide partially loaded with a metadielectric. By using a PSL-based cavity, the concept of a high-power, 0.2-THz Cherenkov source is developed. It is shown that if the PSL satisfies certain defined conditions, single-mode operation is observed.
Helically corrugated waveguide has been used in various applications such as gyro-backward wave oscillators, gyro-traveling wave amplifier and microwave pulse compressor. A fast prediction of the dispersion characteristic of the operating eigenwave is very important when designing a helically corrugated waveguide. In this paper, multi-mode coupling wave equations were developed based on the perturbation method. This method was then used to analyze a five-fold helically corrugated waveguide used for X-band microwave compression. The calculated result from this analysis was found to be in excellent agreement with the results from numerical simulation using CST Microwave Studio and vector network analyzer measurements.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
