The purpose of this paper is to record the involvement of primary-age children from a Libyan-administered school in Marsa-el-Brega in basic archaeological practice, both in the classroom and in the field. The site of Boreum (as identified by Goodchild in 1951), which is in an area adjacent to the school, was used for fieldwork. As well as describing the methodology that was applied, the outcome of the work at Boreum is recorded, in the hope that it will be shown that not only is such practice viable, but also that the results can make a small but useful contribution to our knowledge of such sites.
The object of the present paper is to prove this theorem, and to investigate what similar theorems concerning these products exist. The conditions of validity, depending upon convergence, are so easily determined that they will not again be mentioned.Long ago Clausen* determined the conditions (1) that the square of a hypergeometric function should be a generalised function of type 3 F 2 , <2) that the product of two different hypergeometric functions should be a generalised function of type 3 F 2 . He determined the differential equation of order three satisfied by the square of a hypergeometrie function, and, by a proper selection of constants, made it identical with the equation •satisfied by a function S F. 2 . As regards the product of two different series he considered only the case in which the product satisfied a differential equation of order three and proceeded as he had proceeded for the square •of a single function. * Uber die Falle ivenn die Reihe von der Form, J 1. 7 1.2. 7 .( 7 + 1) •ein Quadrat von der Foim, etc. Crelle, Bd. 3 (1828), S. 89-95
This paper outlines the recording and analysis of ceramic material (predominantly amphorae) from a scattered, shallow wreck site at Marsa-el-Brega. Evaluation of the underwater finds suggests the existence of at least two wrecks, one dating to the first century AD, the other to the sixth century AD. In addition, the role of Marsa-el-Brega is analysed with reference to the evidence on land which includes a possible piscina, a settlement and a headland anchorage. An argument for commerce along the Gulf littoral is postulated, with other possibilities for anchorage proposed, and the possibility of transshipment to other destinations is considered.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
