L'explosion du marché des appareils multimédia, des systèmes portables ou nomades (téléphone, ordinateur, ...) et des technologies embarquées a eu pour conséquence un développement considérable du marché des composants mémoires. Ce développement a été motivé par le besoin de gérer et de stocker des quantités de données de plus en plus importantes, avec des vitesses d'accès et de traitement accélérées, sur des supports de plus en plus petits, tout en consommant de moins en moins d'énergie. Cet essor est aujourd'hui un enjeu commercial important qui stimule l'industrie et la recherche. Dans le domaine des mémoires non volatiles de type « Flash », cette tendance à la miniaturisation conduit à réduire les tensions d'adressage ainsi que l'épaisseur d'oxyde de grille, mais aussi à des temps de rétention toujours plus élevés (80% de la charge pendant 20 ans au lieu de 10 ans). Malheureusement, ces objectifs sont quasiment impossibles à tenir avec une technologie de stockage de charge dans une grille flottante en polysilicium. Dans ce cadre, le remplacement de cette grille par une couche granulaire de nanocristaux de Si enfouis dans l'oxyde de grille semble très prometteur et permettrait de repousser les limites actuelles de ces mémoires [1]. En effet, elle permet en particulier de limiter et de diminuer la perte de charge pour des épaisseurs d'oxyde comprises entre un et dix nanomètres. En outre, si le nombre d'électrons et donc de nanocristaux est faible, des effets de transport quantifiés apparaissent jusqu'à la température ambiante pour des dimensions nanométriques. Ce concept, dit « Nano-Inside », permet le développement d'une technologie hybride qui inclut des objets de taille nanométrique tout en restant compatible avec la technologie CMOS. Ces objets permettront alors d'envisager des applications « grand public » du type mémoires Flash de nouvelle génération, mémoires à un électron [2], interconnexions optiques de circuits intégrés [3], dispositifs électroluminescents (DEL), et ce à température ambiante.La déclinaison de cette technologie en une formation de courte durée met ici en oeuvre un procédé de synthèse de nanocristaux (NCs) par implantation ionique à très basse énergie (≤1keV), procédé « NANOCRYSTALS INSIDE », permettant de fabriquer un plan 2D de nanocristaux de silicium de taille inférieure à 3 nm dans une couche de SiO2 ultra-fine (<10nm) [4, 5 ,6] à l'aide des moyens de l'AIME, du CEMES/CNRS et du LPCNO/INSA. Cette formation se déroule en salle blanche et permet d'aborder par la pratique l'ensemble des procédés de micro-nanotechnologies appliqués à l'intégration de nanocristaux de silicium dans la technologie NMOS. Chaque année, les installations de l’AIME (Atelier Interuniversitaire de Micro-nano-Electronique) de Toulouse sont utilisées par une quarantaine de filières d’enseignement qui y trouvent tous les moyens techniques pour concevoir, réaliser et caractériser un ensemble de dispositifs électroniques ou des microsystèmes électromécaniques. S’inscrivant dans une volonté d’élargissement de l’offre de formation de cette structure inter-établissement, et afin de répondre à une demande croissante de ses utilisateurs, un nouveau procédé technologique visant la conception, la réalisation et la caractérisation de dispositifs optoélectroniques a été mis en place en 2012 et est suivi aujourd’hui par environ 250 étudiants par an, en provenance de diverses formations universitaires ou écoles d’ingénieurs. Ce procédé, baptisé LUMELEC, a pour objectif de fabriquer, sur un même substrat de silicium, divers photodétecteurs destinés à être caractérisés et dont les performances font l’objet d’une étude comparative en fonction de l’application visée. En rupture avec les approches conventionnelles, nous proposons ici la mise en oeuvre d’une réelle microfabrication par les étudiants, succédant à une phase de modélisation et aboutissant à une caractérisation quasi exhaustive du système réalisé. Ainsi, les contraintes liées à des applications dans des domaines aussi variés que la conversion photovoltaïque, la domotique, la biologie, l’environnement,… sont analysées afin de déterminer les caractéristiques du dispositif le mieux adapté à sa fonction. Aujourd’hui, bénéficiant d’un retour d’expérience sur plusieurs années, nous décrivons dans cet article les principales options retenues pour permettre une mise en oeuvre aisée et « modulaire » de ce projet, et faire en sorte qu’il réponde aux demandes de formations diverses.
L’objectif de ce projet pédagogique est de proposer à des étudiants de niveau Master ou Ingénieur en Electronique un module complet leur permettant de se familiariser avec la conception et la fabrication de circuits intégrés analogiques répondant spécifiquement à un cahier des charges. L’autonomie et la prise d’initiatives sont favorisées par le mode d’Apprentissage Par Projet (APP). Le projet, d’une durée totale de 9 journées permettra à une équipe constituée de 2 binômes d’étudiants de réaliser un circuit CMOS personnalisé selon un cahier des charges, à partir de la modélisation de la filière technologique NMOS et PMOS accessibles à la centrale technologique de l’Atelier Interuniversitaire de Micro-nano Electronique (AIME) de Toulouse. Ce projet vise à placer les étudiants dans un contexte proche d’une situation en milieu professionnel, où ils doivent concevoir, réaliser et tester une solution répondant à un cahier des charges. A l’issue des tests expérimentaux, les étudiants présenteront leurs résultats au travers d’un rapport écrit et d’une présentation orale. Ils devront analyser les écarts aux cahiers des charges et les écarts entre calculs théoriques/simulation et mesures ; puis proposer les voies et alternatives qui permettraient d’améliorer leurs solutions.
L'INSA de TOULOUSE propose plusieurs parcours transverses pluridisciplinaires en année terminale de formation d'ingénieur. L'un d'eux porte sur l'innovation dans le domaine des technologies de l'internet des objets - Innovative Smart Systems. Les étudiants sont formés à l'innovation, au travers de cours et d'un projet semestriel sur les différentes phases de la démarche : la conception, la mise en oeuvre, la propriété intellectuelle et à la commercialisation d'un «système intelligent». Ainsi, une large part de l'enseignement est dédiée à un projet avec une partie pratique visant à construire un capteur chimique communiquant à base de nanoparticules élaborées par voie chimique. L'ensemble de la démarche d'innovation et le capteur sont présentés devant un jury composé d'industriels du secteur.
