Recently a patient was admitted to this hospital who, while in a kneeling position, had accidentally cut his right thigh above the knee with an electric hand saw. When the leg was extended, the muscle contracted approximately 2 inches, resulting in extreme anaerobiosis. He was first treated by a local physician who cleaned and sutured the wound and discharged him. The second day he was treated by a different local physician who administered 1,500 units of tetanus antitoxin, but apparently the patient was not suffering from any infection.
