The transverse-momentum distribution of charged pions produced in 28.5-GeV/cpp interactions was studied. Scaling of the transverse-momentum distribution versus the "mean" variablep T /(p T ) was observed, independent of charge multiplicity, missing mass, and energy, in the central region. From the scaling behavior of the pions, the limiting temperature was determined to be T 0 = 117± 4 MeV.
The diffractively produced low-mass TT + TT~P system is studied in the reaction TT p -» TT~TT n~p. We observe strong N (1700) production and determine the branching fraction to rr~A ++ to be 65 ± 15%. A spinp * parity analysis (assuming J < 7/2) yields J = 5/2+ for the N (1700).
*The study of the decay angular distribution of the N (1700) indicates that helicity is conserved in the t-channel rather than in the s-channel,
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
