We discuss the possibility of same-sign dileptons as a signature for Majorana neutrinos. The production mechanism is given by a single heavy neutrino production and decay pp −→ l ± N X −→ l ± l ± X ′ . Cross section and distributions are presented for the LHC energies.
In this paper we discuss a left-right symmetric model for elementary particles and their connection with the mass spectrum of elementary fermions. The model is based on the group $SU(2)_L\otimes SU(2)_R\otimes U(1)$. New mirror fermions and a minimal set of Higgs particles that breaks the symmetry down to $U(1)_{em}$ are proposed. The model can accommodate a consistent pattern for charged and neutral fermion masses as well as neutrino oscillations. An important consequence of the model is that the connection between the left and right sectors can be done by the neutral vector gauge bosons Z and a new heavy Z'.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures. We discuss the production and decay of possible new heavy leptons in some extensions of the standard model. We present a comparison between models and the recent results from the CERN e + e -collider LEP and analyze the most reliable signatures for heavy leptons in the reaction e + e P -I L . A clear separation among models and masses can be done using a Monte Carlo reconstruction of the events.
We investigate the possibility of producing new heavy leptons as suggested by some grand unified theories and superstring-inspired models. For these models the production of a single heavy lepton is shown to be more relevant than pair production. We present a study of cross sections and distributions that could, in principle, differentiate models for new leptons at Fermilab Tevatron and CERN LHC energies.
In this work we make a brief exposition on Aristotle's physics. We show how aristotelic science constitutes a complex effort towards a rational understanding of material reality, completely integrated to an organic and comprehensive thought. We intended to show, above all, how physical and cosmological aristotelic elements come from philosophical tenets as much as from empirical observations characteristic of human experience belonging to that historic-cultural moment. Keywords: Aristotelic physics, Aristotelic science, history of science.
