This paper investigates the channel holding time and call inter-arrival distributions in cellular telephony systems. Up untiA ,ww, it has been generally assumed that both these distrit-,iitions citn be approximated by the negative exponential model. A scudy is presented which, using real cellular data, determines thc actual distributions. It is shown that the negative exponential assurnption for charinel holding time is not correct and that a lognormal model iipproximation fits much closer.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
