Odontomas are the most common benign tumours of odontogenic origin. Due to their hamartomatous nature, they are usually asymptomatic but can cause impaction of one or more teeth. They consist microscopically of all the tissue types found in a developed tooth. We present a case of a large sequestrating complex odontoma resulting in facial asymmetry, cellulitis, pain and partial loss of function. This case has significance, as odontomas of this large size have rarely been reported.
A case of an unusually large expansile nasopalatine duct cyst (NPDC) causing extensive destruction of the hard palate with involvement of the nasal cavity, perforation of the alveolar process and mucosa of the maxilla by pressure of the maxillary anterior teeth is being presented.
The most common benign salivary gland tumor is the pleomorphic adenoma (PA). They can attain grotesque proportions and weigh several kilograms. They can cause facial disfigurement and, if untreated, could lead to airway compromise. We report a case of a large PA arising from the left submandibular salivary gland in a 20-year-old black female. The lesion measured ∼16 × 15 × 12 cm.
A case of an ameloblastic carcinoma with extension to the anterior skull base as a result of prolonged misdiagnosis is being presented. Radical surgery and radiotherapy was performed due to involvement of the ethmoidal air sinuses and close proximity to the cranial fossa. Diagnostic tests showed no evidence of metastasis. The patient was treated with surgery, adjuvant radiotherapy, and prosthetic rehabilitation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
