SUMMARYIn this review the literature on the pathogenesis and histopathological features of Chlamydia psittaci infections in birds and their significance for psittacosis/ornithosis in humans is summarized. Models of experimental infections to elucidate the pathogenicity of avian strains are discussed briefly.
