Resumo: Nas últimas décadas a engenharia estrutural tem registrado diversos casos de problemas de vibrações em estruturas sob a ação de carregamentos dinâmicos. A análise dinâmica pode ser caracterizada através de três propriedades fundamentais: os modos naturais de vibração, os fatores de amortecimento, e as frequências naturais da estrutura. A análise modal é o processo constituído de técnicas teóricas e experimentais que possibilitam a construção de um modelo matemático representativo do comportamento dinâmico do sistema em estudo, a fim de determinar os seus parâmetros modais. As frequências naturais indicam a taxa de oscilação livre da estrutura, depois de cessada à força que provocou o seu movimento. Em palavras similares, representa o quanto à estrutura vibra quando não há força aplicada sobre ela. Esta frequência é função direta da rigidez, e inversa da massa da estrutura, sendo designada por um número real positivo, e cuja unidade mais comum é o Hertz. Uma estrutura possui diversas frequências naturais pois ela pode vibrar livremente (após ter sido excitada por uma força) em diversas direções. A frequência natural mais importante é a primeira, menor entre todas, designada por fundamental. É importante ressaltar que, em estruturas convencionais, a primeira frequência é sempre a mais preponderante ao movimento oscilatório, sendo os demais modos de vibração insignificantes frente a este. Os modos de vibração são a forma como a estrutura vibra, relacionada a cada uma de suas frequências naturais. Ou seja: para cada frequência natural existe um modo de vibração específico, ou um perfil de vibração. O objetivo do presente trabalho é comparar os resultados obtidos por meio de cálculo analítico e via análise experimental do comportamento de uma estrutura submetida às vibrações para validação do modelo. O modelo experimental é formado por um pórtico suportando determinada massa, e assim, foi observado o seu desempenho dinâmico.
