He works as a co-director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at Kyung Hee University which conducts research on teaching and learning strategies and instructional design. His research includes design and development of online content, inquiry-based learning, instructional design, teacher professional development, diffusion of innovative technology, technology integration into curriculum, and educational reform. He has published extensively in many professional journals and is an active member of KSET (Korean Society of Educational Technology) and many other professional organisations. AbstractThe purpose of this study is to discuss major issues in designing inquiries on the web. Instructional designers face a lot of difficulties and challenges to deal with in the course of designing inquiry experiences for learners in the online environment, a complex and ill-structured learning environment. Facilitating inquiry or using an inquiry-based learning approach on the web has both advantages and disadvantages. Instructional designers need to acknowledge the design issues arising in each and every phase of the design process. Utilising appropriate design strategies, instructional designers can provide positive learning experiences for their online learners. For this purpose, three representative cases in the context of teacher professional development were examined and six major issues were identified as follows: (1) seeking a balance between a system-generated guide and human facilitator, (2) visual representation of the inquiry process, (3) motivating learners with the right question, (4) engaging learners in various learning activities, (5) guiding the inquiry process with various scaffolds, and (6) maximising learning by coordinating resources, tools and the community of inquiry. This study explains each issue in great detail and provides possible guides for instructional designers to handle the issue.
The purpose of this study was to examine the current status of e-Learning in Korean higher education and find ways to encourage the further use and development of e-Learning systems that aim to enhance Korea's academic competitiveness. A total of 201 universities in Korea (27 national and public, 163 private, and 11 national universities of education) were examined in this study. At the time of the study, 85 percent of the universities and colleges had investigated implemented e-Learning. There were special e-Learning teams in most national and public universities, as well as private universities and colleges. Findings from this study found that both teachers and learners alike, lacked meaningful support systems and opportunities to actively participate in e-Learning programs. Although such lack of support was found to be endemic, such lack of support and opportunity was found to be more accute in private universities, private colleges, universities of education, than mid-sized, small-sized, and provincial universities and colleges. Except for a few mid- and small-sized universities and colleges, most large universities and colleges were equipped with technical support such as infrastructure and operational platforms. These same schools, however, did not provide institutional support, nor did they employ appropriate policies needed to further the quality and enhancement of e-Learning offerings. Also, there was no meaningful link found between schools and industry, nor was there adequate financial support in place for the implementation of e-Learning systems, simply because many universities failed to allocate sufficient funding for e-Learning.
The effort to generate new values in this age of digital technology characterized by rapid changes in information and knowledge demands transformations not only in the sociocultural and educational spheres but also specifically in the field of arts and culture education. One of the greatest transformations is emphasis on integration and consilience among different fields which has impacted the field of arts and culture, giving birth to the practice of arts and culture education. Digital technology actively utilizes in lots of subjects, which, also becomes a challenging factor for the field of arts and culture education. In this context, this study theoretically considered to approach music technology to use for the field of arts and culture education. Utilization of music technology takes interdisciplinary approaches combining various subjects in the field of arts and culture education. Considering the current circumstances in which there is a lack of teaching and learning methodologies which reflect the unique, specialized nature and the intrinsic originality of the field of arts and culture education. It is deemed that by accumulating more case studies applying music technology in practice to a wider variety of targets and situations. Music technology will serve the role of an important a learning tool for the arts and culture education field.
