In this study, evaluation of clinical and operative results of cats with diaphragmatic hernia presented with respiratory failure was aimed. The cats were in different age, breed and sex. All of the cats were treated surgically with 73.3% survival rate. The highest incidence of herniation was in the liver and small intestine, but stomach and spleen also was encountered. All deaths occurred during surgery, the cases completed surgical procedure were healed. The cats which died had multiple organ herniation as well as laceration of the lungs and fluid accumulation in the thoracic cavity were noticed. It was seen that intensive care cabin applications and Ventolin -Pulmicort support through nebulizer provided marked contribution on survival rate. ÖZBu çalışmada, kliniğimize solunum güçlüğü şikâyeti ile getirilen kedilerde karşılaşılan diyafram fıtıklarının klinik ve operatif sonuçlarının değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Kediler farklı yaş, ırk ve cinsiyette idiler. Tüm kediler % 73.3 sağ kalım oranıyla cerrahi olarak tedavi edildi. En fazla fıtıklaşan organ karaciğer ve ince bağırsak olmakla birlikte mide ve dalakla da karşılaşıldı. Tüm ölümler operasyon sırasında meydana geldi, operasyonu tamamlanan olguların tamamı yaşadı. Ölen kedilerde çoklu organ fıtıklaşması yanı sıra gerek fıtıklaşan organ gerekse akciğerlerde laserasyon, göğüs boşluğunda sıvı toplanması dikkati çekti. Yoğun bakım kabin uygulamaları ve nebulizator aracılığı ile ventolin-pulmicort desteği sağ kalım üzerine olumlu katkı sağladığı görüldü.
The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the clinical outcome, complications, recurrence rate, and results of the pocket technique in the treatment of prolapse of the third eyelid gland, cherry eye namely. Thirty eyes of 26 dogs diagnosed with prolapse of the third eyelid gland were included the study. Conjunctivitis and ocular discharges were noticed in the affected eyes. The four cases were (15%) bilateral and twenty-two (85%) were unilateral. Of the dogs with unilateral disease, the affected eye was on the left side in 10 (45%) dogs and the right side in 12 (55%). Eighteen dogs were male and eight were female. Twenty-six dogs, 30 eyes with protrusion of the third eyelid gland were treated using Modified Morgan’s pocket technique. In the postoperative period, the dogs were controlled 3 times with 7 day intervals and no clinical problem was detected. Modified Morgan pocket technique was used with 96.1 percent success rate for the re-positioning of prolapsed gland of the third eyelid in dogs.
The aim of this study was to determine intraocular pressure (IOP) and central corneal thickness (CCT) measurements in healthy rabbits to establish clinical reference values and to investigate the possible relationship between these measurements. The study included 40 eyes of 20 New Zealand albino rabbits, aged 1.5-2 years. All the eyes were healthy with no abnormalities, corneal disease, or evidence of glaucoma. An ultrasonographic pachymeter was used to measure CCT and TonoVet® was used to measure IOP. Correlations between IOP and CCT measurements were examined. The mean CCT was 388.2 ± 38.22 µm in the right eye and 391.8± 59.18 µm in the left eye. IOP was measured as 16 ± 3.76 mmHg in the right eye and 16 ± 2.73 mmHg in the left eye. No correlation was determined between the IOP and CCT, and this indicated that the TonoVet® readings of CCT and IOP did not cause a deviation that could be determined. There is a need for further studies of different animals to investigate the effect of corneal thickness on the IOP measurements made with TonoVet®.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of collagen shield on epithelial wound healing in rabbit eyes. Adult New Zealand Albino rabbits were used in the study. All surgical procedures were carried out under general anesthesia. Superficial keratectomies of 6 mm in diameter were created in 40 eyes of 20 rabbits and they were separated into 3 groups as the control (CN), medical treatment (CA) and collagen barrier (CB) groups. In the CN group, 6 rabbits received 0.9% NaCl drops. In the CA group, 7 rabbits received ciprofloxacin and acetylcysteine. In the CB group, a collagen shield was placed on corneal defect for 72 hours in 7 rabbits. Central corneal thickness was measured using an ultrasound pachymeter. Corneal thickness was determined before and at 72 and 96 hours after surgery. There was a significant increase (CA group: P<0.01, CB group: P<0.001) in corneal thickness at 72 hours. The wound size was evaluated immediately after the surgery, then at 72 and 96 hours. There was a significantly greater healing response in the collagen shield group (P<0.001) compared to the other groups. The earlier wound closure in the CB group may be due to protection and lubrication of the epithelial cells in the margins of the fresh wound. These findings suggest that the collagen shield may be useful when treating corneal surface conditions in which de-epithelialization is a component.

Artrodez bir kurtarma prosedürü ve amputasyon için bir alternatiftir. Tarsometatarsal eklemin dorsal ve plantar desteklerini oluşturan yapılar zarar gördüğünde kollateral ligamentler de bundan etkilenebilmektedir. Böyle durumlarda bandaj uygulamaları başarısız olup, daha çok tarsometatarsal eklem artrodezi önerilmektedir. Artrodez sonrası uzvun fonksiyonu normale dönmez ancak çoğu durumda evcil hayvanın, aktif bir yaşam sağlaması için yeterlidir. Sunulan olguda dört buçuk aylık, 2,2 kg canlı ağrılığındaki erkek, melez kedi, sokakta bulunarak, bulan kişiler tarafından, sol arka ekstremitede yapısal bozukluk ve ilgili ekstremiteyi kullanamama şikayetiyle kliniğe başvurdu. Klinik muayene ve radyografik bulguların değerlendirmesi sonucunda açık yara tedavisine ve kedinin genel durumunu normale döndükten sonra operatif olarak sağaltımına karar verildi. Sunulan olguda medialden yaklaşımla plak ile pantarsal artrodez metodu uygulanarak sağaltım sonuçlarının sunulması amaçlanmıştır.
