Objetivo: comparar o conhecimento que os responsáveis e/ou familiares das crianças diagnosticadas com epilepsia e aquelas com outros diagnósticos possuem em relação a esse distúrbio. Método: este foi um estudo clínico descritivo transversal, que ocorreu através da aplicação da segunda parte do "Inventário Simplificado de Qualidade de Vida na Epilepsia Infantil". Resultados: participaram do estudo 83 indivíduos, sendo 36 do grupo de familiares de crianças com epilepsia e 47 do grupo de crianças com outros diagnósticos. O medo de a língua ser engolida durante uma crise epiléptica está presente em 55,5% dos familiares de crianças com epilepsia e 61,7% dos familiares das crianças do outro grupo. Conclusão: diante disso, é fundamental haver uma política de saúde e educação que envolva capacitação e conscientização sobre a Epilepsia.
