Visto que as instalações de tratamento de águas servidas estão sujeitas à corrosão induzida por micro-organismos devido ao ataque por ácido sulfúrico (H2SO4), esse estudo buscou testar o silicato de sódio neutro (Na2SiO3) como solução mitigadora do ataque ácido em pastas de cimento Portland. Foram moldados corpos de prova com diferentes teores de adição de Na2SiO3 (0%, 1%, 5% e 10%) e substituição de 35% do cimento Portland CP-V ARI por cinza volante classe C. Por fim, as amostras imersas em solução contendo H2SO4 foram comparadas com as amostras imersas em água saturada com cal. Nos resultados observou-se que a absorção de água e o índice de vazios dependeram do desenvolvimento da microestrutura e da velocidade da reação do cimento com o H2SO4, expresso pela recombinação química entre os íons sulfato e a portlandita. A degradação microestrutural foi comprovada com as análises de FT-IR.
Dentre os ataques mais severos às matrizes cimentícias, destaca-se o decorrente do ácido sulfúrico (H2SO4), que pode desenvolver-se em sistemas de coleta de esgoto. Para tanto, os agentes cristalizantes são capazes de trazer resultados positivos quanto à durabilidade através da redução da permeabilidade. Portanto, o presente artigo investigou a influência da adição de silicato de sódio alcalino em pastas de cimento exposta ao ataque por ácido sulfúrico. Fez-se uso de cimento CP V-ARI, cinza volante e superplastificante como demais materiais da mistura. Empregaram-se ensaios para avaliação de índice de vazios, absorção de água e FT-IR. Os resultados mostraram que o teor de adição de silicato de sódio alcalino e o ambiente de exposição influenciaram as características das amostras. As pastas com adição de silicato de sódio alcalino apresentaram menor degradação sob o ponto de vista dos ensaios de índice de vazios e absorção de água. O FT-IR evidenciou a formação dos produtos oriundos da degradação pelo ataque ácido. Palavras-chave: Ataque ácido; Silicato de sódio alcalino; Pasta de cimento.
O estudo do comportamento do concreto submetido ao ataque por sulfatos se dá principalmente por meio de ensaios acelerados, devido as suas vantagens, dentre as quais se destaca a rapidez para obtenção de resultados. Assim, existe na literatura um número expressivo de trabalhos que procuram aperfeiçoar essa técnica. Isto posto, o presente artigo apresenta uma revisão da literatura recente sobre os estudos relacionados ao ataque por sulfatos às matrizes cimentícias. Para tal, foram selecionados 17 artigos internacionais sobre o ataque por sulfato, tanto externo como interno, e os respectivos métodos de ensaio acelerados e modelagens, dos quais discorreu-se mais profundamente sobre 6. Os resultados mostram que há diversos fatores que influenciam o ataque por sulfatos, tornando a modelagem um tanto complexa.
