A pesquisa analisa as ações de comunicação da Associação Brasileira das Entidades Estaduais de Assistência Técnica e Extensão Rural (Asbraer) nas redes sociais virtuais, especificamente o Facebook. A intenção é compreender até que ponto o trabalho da Asbraer no Facebook contribui na promoção dos princípios da Política Nacional de Assistência Técnica e Extensão Rural (Pnater). O estudo utiliza técnicas combinadas de coleta e análise de dados, com ênfase na Netnografia ou Etnografia Virtual, uma abordagem metodológica que busca se utilizar dos pressupostos da Etnografia para análise do ciberespaço. A pesquisa elencou as seguintes categorias, para análise: Ater e desenvolvimento sustentável; Ater e agricultura ecológica; Ater, construção da cidadania e democratização da gestão da política pública; Ater e relações de gênero, geração e etnia. Os resultados evidenciaram que, apesar de a Asbraer publicar conteúdos com regularidade em sua Linha do Tempo no Facebook, poucas vezes contempla as preocupações apresentadas nos princípios da Pnater. Identificamos igualmente que a rede virtual da Associação, e seus seguidores, é caracterizada por poucas interações entre os nós ali presentes.
