MAGNETICSEPARATION OPTIMIZATION USING SUPER-WHIMS AND BIGFLUX SYSTEMS FOR SLIMES CONCENTRATION Abstract This work is based on the presentation of the pilot scale study carried out by MineraçãoUsiminasS.A. (MUSA) to optimize the magnetic separation route of the West Mine. The idealized proposal contemplates a better utilization of the installed capacity of the existing machines, through the GAP variation for the Rougher, Cleaner and Scavenger stages in only two equipment, thus allowing the insertion of tailings, until then deposited in tailing dams, due to its narrow grain size range in the finer fractions in the magnetic separation circuit, through the Super-WHIMS® system and the Big Flux® Matrix developed by Gaustec Magnetic Technology. After the tests, the gains in mass recovery in relation to the values historically practiced on an industrial scale, in accordance with the chemical quality required to meet the business need, could be evidenced. In addition, the reduction of the volume of solids to the tailing dams allows a greater longevity of the operations.
