RESUMO A contaminação da água devido ao descarte de poluentes emergentes como antibióticos, pesticidas, aditivos alimentares entre outros poluentes orgânicos tem efeitos adversos na saúde humana e é um problema ambiental mundial que necessita de ação imediata. A tecnologia de membrana é uma alternativa eficaz e atraente para esse tratamento, por oferecer alta eficiência de separação, baixo consumo de energia, e maior flexibilidade operacional. Além disso, uma grande atenção tem sido concedida à nanotecnologia, a qual, permite a produção de materiais com propriedades como, hidrofilicidade, permeabilidade e resistência. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo o preparo e caracterização de membranas poliméricas de matriz mista. Estas foram preparadas pela técnica de inversão de fases, utilizando como precursor polimérico o copolímero de estireno e acrilonitrila (SAN), com a adição de argila organofílica (0, 1,5 e 3,0% (m/m)) e como solvente N-metil-2-pirrolidona (NMP). A partir da análise dos resultados de MEV constatou-se que as membranas apresentaram uma estrutura assimétrica, compostas por uma fina camada seletiva no topo, macrovazios na forma de finger-like que se prolongam através da membrana, com poucos ou nenhum defeito na superfície. Já ao observar-se o efeito da adição de argila, percebeu-se que o mesmo causou um aparente aumento na camada seletiva e a diminuição na camada porosa. Ademais, na adição da argila para concentração de 3% percebeu-se uma maior formação de defeitos aparentes, tornando-a quebradiça. Baseado nos resultados da análise de BJH concluiu-se que as membranas apresentaram uma vasta distribuição de poros na faixa de meso, macro ou microporos.
