Neste texto, busca-se descrever e analisar a dimensão política da festa de 20 de novembro realizada na comunidade Quilombola Campina de Pedra, Poconé, Mato Grosso (MT), e compreender como a escola dialoga com toda a simbologia negra que a perpassa. Metodologicamente, assenta-se na etnografia. Realizaram-se observações e entrevistas com festejadores e professores da escola. Os escritos etnográficos são resultados das experiências vividas durante o XI Encontro Quilombola realizado em novembro de 2015, registrados em caderno de campo. Teoricamente, apoia-se em Castro Júnior (2014), Pessoa (2005), Ribeiro Júnior (1982), entre outros. Os resultados apontam a festa Quilombola como um espaço privilegiado de reivindicações, memória, história e saberes ecoados no/e pelo corpo. A escola demonstra timidez em fazer intercomunicação pedagógica com a festa. Entende-se que os momentos festivos colaboram com o fortalecimento e as afirmações identitárias, na medida em que se relacionam os elementos do passado e presente manifestados no corpo festivo. Assim sendo, não condizem com a lógica epistêmica da modernidade e da colonialidade e, portanto, são elementos propícios para uma educação contextualizada ao universo histórico, social e cultural dos quilombos.
O artigo tem como objetivo problematizar a imagem que os estudantes quilombolas, do Chumbo, constrói de si e de seu território, a partir do olhar dos outros e como a escola tem se posicionado diante dos negativismo que perpassam essa autoimagem heteroatribuída. A pesquisa se insere na abordagem qualitativa etnográfica e teve como instrumentos de coleta: a observação e entrevistas com gestores e professores da escola Nossa Senhora Aparecida. Os resultados apontam que o olhar dos outros são definidores, por excelência, da imagem negativa que os estudantes constroem de si mesmos e de seu território. Percebe-se o esforço da escola em reverter esse processo de negativismo, mas ainda é um trabalho não sistemático, e representa um desafio à modalidade de Educação Escolar Quilombola.
