A síndrome dos braquicéfalos em cães e gatos está diretamente ligada a processos obstrutivos que ocorrem em função de importantes deformidades anatômicas das vias aéreas anteriores comumente encontradas nesses animais. Essas alterações impactam as funções fisiológicas dos sistemas respiratório, cardiovascular digestório entre outros, comprometendo de forma relevante o bem-estar e a qualidade de vida desses animais. O presente trabalho visa apresentar uma revisão bibliográfica evidenciando o tratamento clínico e cirúrgico da síndrome braquicefálica, onde pôde-se concluir que apesar da gravidade desta doença existe a possibilidade de tratamento clínico e cirúrgico com indicação das correções das múltiplas alterações anatômicas obstrutivas, sendo o prognóstico favorável, especialmente para os cães que tiveram seu tratamento iniciado precocemente, melhorando de forma significativa o bem estar e qualidade de vida desses animais.
A grande popularidade dos cães braquicefálicos entre os tutores levou à necessidade de um maior conhecimento por parte dos médicos veterinários das doenças características dessas raças. Chamam a atenção, principalmente, as modificações relacionadas às vias aéreas anteriores, que sofreram grandes alterações e predispõem ao desenvolvimento de uma grave doença multissistêmica conhecida como síndrome dos cães braquicefálicos (SB) ou síndrome respiratória obstrutiva dos braquicéfalos (SROB). O estudo ora conduzido tem por objetivo apresentar uma revisão evidenciando os aspectos clínicos e anatômicos da SB visto a importância desta doença na clínica médica e cirúrgica de pequenos animais. Podendo desta forma concluir que o reconhecimento precoce das alterações anatômicas obstrutivas que caracterizam a síndrome braquicefálica pelo médico veterinário é de extrema importância para a pronta instituição do tratamento possibilitando melhores resultados e assim melhor qualidade de vida para o animal.
A esporotricose é uma micose de caráter zoonótico causada por fungos do gênero Sporothrix. O patógeno está presente no solo, na água, em matéria orgânica e em decomposição, sendo encontrado, portanto, em diferentes ambientes. No entanto, apesar de ser possível a transmissão sapronótica, no Brasil esta acontece principalmente por inoculação traumática do fungo, a partir de mordeduras e arranhaduras causadas por felinos infectados. A partir daí, a doença pode suscitar manifestação clínica diversa, principalmente representada por sinais cutâneos e respiratórios, podendo comprometer de forma significativa a saúde do animal. Apesar da doença acometer mais frequentemente os gatos, os cães também são hospedeiros suscetíveis, mas o seu diagnóstico muitas vezes é um desafio. Sendo assim o objetivo deste artigo é relatar um caso clínico de esporotricose intranasal em uma cadela de um ano de idade da raça spitz alemão, cujo único sinal apresentado foi a dispneia inspiratória, diferentemente da manifestação cutânea mais comum. O diagnóstico foi definido a partir da avaliação histopatológica de fragmento retirado via rinoscopia. O tratamento da cadela foi realizado com o antifúngico itraconazol e houve remissão completa da doença. Esse estudo reforça a necessidade de estabelecer o diagnóstico e terapêutica correta para o paciente, além de evidenciar que a esporotricose deve ser considerada como um diagnóstico diferencial em cães com alterações respiratórias ou cutâneas.
O reconhecimento precoce da síndrome braquicefálica é de extrema importância para um melhor prognóstico pós-cirúrgico, sendo primordial a associação de variados métodos de pesquisa para sua determinação. O diagnóstico da síndrome baseia-se em uma anamnese apurada juntamente com a observação dos sinais clínicos característicos e exames complementares, tais quais hematológicos e exames de imagem. Dentre os exames de imagem, são comumente utilizadas a radiografia, rinoscopia e tomografia computadorizada, que auxiliam tanto no diagnóstico da síndrome quanto no planejamento cirúrgico, quando indicado. Visto a importância do diagnóstico preciso desta enfermidade nos cães acometidos, o atual estudo objetivou realizar uma revisão bibliográfica atualizada abordando os diferentes métodos diagnósticos para a SB. Pode-se então concluir que a correta identificação da síndrome braquicefálica pelos médicos veterinários através das diferentes ferramentas diagnósticas é de extrema importância para estabelecer um tratamento precoce, minimizando o risco agudo de óbito e aumentando a qualidade de vida e bem estar dos animais acometidos.
