Aim: To assess the influence of different fiberglass post surface treatments on the bond strength (BS) to root dentin. Methods: Thirty bovine root canals were endodontically treated and filled with gutta-percha and AH Plus sealer. At 24 h after the endodontic filling, the post spaces were prepared with Gates-Glidden drills and #3 drills of the DC White Post system, maintaining a 4 mm apical seal. The roots were randomly divided into three groups: S (fiberglass posts treated with silane), SA (fiberglass posts treated with silane and a hydrophobic adhesive system) and SHA (fiberglass posts treated with silane, followed by drying with hot air). The posts were cemented with a selfadhesive cement (RelyX U200). The specimens were stored in distilled water at 37 °C for 24 h and subjected to the push-out test (0.5 mm/min). Data were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (α=0.05) Results: SA and SHA groups showed the highest BS mean values (11.29 and 10.85 MPa, respectively), while the S group presented the lowest BS mean value (7.21 MPa). S group was significantly different from SA and SAH groups. Conclusions: The surface treatment of fiberglass posts influenced BS values.
Objectives: Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is considered a functional disorder with multifactorial aspects. The goal of this study was to investigate if genetic polymorphisms in the COL2A1 gene could be associated with TMD in adolescents. Study design: The case group (TMD-affected) included individuals diagnosed with any of the following TMD subgroups according to the RDC/TMD criteria: myofascial pain, disc displacements and arthralgia. Genomic DNA for molecular analysis was extracted from buccal cells and genetic polymorphisms in COL2A1 were genotyped by real time polymerase chain reactions using the TaqMan assay. Data were analyzed using the Epi Info 3.5.7 and Stata software. Results: 249 subjects were included in this study (148 subjects “affected” by TMD). There were no significant differences between the affected and unaffected individual (p>0.05), for TMD, arthralgia and myofascial pain however, rs2276454 was borderline in the genotype distribution (p=0.07) and was associated with disc displacement (p=0.03) in the allelic distribution. Recessive model showed significant differences between groups for with disc displacement (p=0.02). Conclusions: Genetic polymorphisms in COL2A1 are not associated with myofascial pain, arthralgia or TMD in adolescents but this study provides evidence that rs2276454 is involved in the disc displacement of the temporomandibular joint.

In this sense, the facial anthropometry is a simple and non-invasive way to evaluate the morphology of the facial surface of individuals, thus, defining the craniofacial dimensions. Objective: To evaluate the facial anthropometric measurements of a Caucasian female, aged 20 years, diagnosed with BPES and to compare these measures with the values described in the literature for non-syndromic woman.Material and methods: This research is an observational study of a Caucasian female, aged 20 years, who was diagnosed with BPES. Frontal photographs were taken, and the images analyzed by nine researchers calibrated in Image J® software. The facial measurements evaluated were head, face, orbits, nose, and labio-oral region and were compared with non-syndromic woman. Results: All vertical and horizontal face measurements were higher than that of otherfemales from Caucasian groups. BPES woman also presented bilateral ptosis and the main differences appear in the region of the orbits. Conclusion: The anthropometric facial analysis of BPES woman showed a significant change in the facial landmarks.
