b The Kulgera Dyke Swarm consists of olivine tholeiites which have intruded late Proterozoic transitional‐granulite gneisses and granites of the eastern Musgrave Block, in central Australia. Preliminary Rb/Sr results suggest that the dolerites were emplaced at 1054 ± 14 Ma. In addition, a Rb/Sr age of 1060 ± 10 Ma on a biotite from a pegmatite indicates thermal resetting of the country rock minerals during dyke emplacement. Palaeomagnetic investigations of the dykes yield a primary thermoremanent magnetization direction corresponding to a palaeomagnetic pole at 17d̀S, 266d̀E (A95= 12d̀). In addition to this primary magnetization, an overprint component was present in many of the samples, providing a palaeomagnetic pole at 30d̀S, 138d̀E (A95= 24d̀), which is similar to previous results from other central Australian rocks affected by the Alice Springs Orogeny. The results extend the area of influence of the Carboniferous Alice Springs Orogeny southward into the Musgrave Block. Further, the results provide no evidence for an earlier, Late Proterozoic, Petermann Orogeny affecting the Musgrave Block in the Kulgera region. However, the possibility that a Petermann Orogeny thermal overprint has been erased by the Alice Springs Orogeny cannot be dismissed.

GWML2 is an international standard for the online exchange of groundwater data that addresses the problem of data heterogeneity. This problem makes groundwater data hard to find and use because the data are diversely structured and fragmented into numerous data silos. Overcoming data heterogeneity requires a common data format; however, until the development of GWML2, an appropriate international standard has been lacking. GWML2 represents key hydrogeological entities such as aquifers and water wells, as well as related measurements and groundwater flows. It is developed and tested by an international consortium of groundwater data providers from North America, Europe, and Australasia, and facilitates many forms of data exchange, information representation, and the development of online web portals and tools.

Part 2: Information Systems, Information Modelling and SemanticsInternational audiencenetCDF is a well-known and widely used format to exchange array-oriented scientific data such as grids and time-series. We describe a new convention for encoding netCDF based on Linked Data principles called netCDF-LD. netCDF-LD allows metadata elements, given as string values in current netCDF files, to be given as Linked Data objects. netCDF-LD allows precise semantics to be used for elements and expands the type options beyond lists of controlled terms. Using Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs) for elements allows them to refer to other Linked Data resources for their type and descriptions. This enables improved data discovery through a generic mechanism for element type identification and adds element type expandability to new Linked Data resources as they become available. By following patterns already established for extending existing formats, netCDF-LD applications can take advantage of existing software for processing Linked Data and supporting more effective data discovery and integration across systems

The FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and re-usable) principles and practice recommendations provide high level guidance and recommendations that are not research-domain specific in nature. There remains a gap in practice at the data provider and domain scientist level demonstrating how the FAIR principles can be applied beyond a set of generalist guidelines to meet the needs of a specific domain community.We present our insights developing FAIR thresholds in a domain specific context for self-governance by a community (agricultural research). 'Minimum thresholds' for FAIR data are required to align expectations for data delivered from providers' distributed data stores through a community-governed federation (the Agricultural Research Federation, AgReFed). Data providers were supported to make data holdings more FAIR. There was a range of different FAIR starting points, organisational goals, and end user needs, solutions, and capabilities. This informed the distilling of a set of FAIR criteria ranging from 'Minimum thresholds' to 'Stretch targets'.
