A spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of oxidizing substances in food-grade hydrochloric acid. The method is based on the reaction of oxidizing substances with potassium iodide to form triiodide ion (I-3) whose absorbance is then measured at 485 nm. Oxidizing substances is reported as fig Cl2/mL. The method is applicable to oxidizing substances in the range of approximately 9-37 μgCl2/mL.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
