Crying is said to result from stimulus need. An experiment was done in which infants were stimulated during quiet periods to see if this would postpone the onset of crying. The results were positive. An alternative explanation in terms of internal temperature control is considered.
speech of normal subjects is impaired when subject hears himself speak a fraction of a second after uttering, that is, when auditory feed‐back is delayed. A study was made of individual differences in showing this impairment. It was found that those showing impairment in marked fashion were likely to have high scores in tests of other kinds of ‘perseveration’.
Mowrer considers that talking birds will imitate only those sounds which have been associated with primary or secondary reinforcement. His theory was tested by playing whistles to two groups of myna birds, in the presence of reinforcers and in their absence. The birds mimicked the whistles equally well under each condition.
