Currently, due to the large amounts of molecular information available for the most diverse human conditions, it has become essential to find ways to systematically analyze these data to find order amidst the biological chaos. In recent years, bioinformatics tools have been of immense value in helping us to find guidance amid populational and molecular information on complex diseases. However, this information has often been underutilized in the field of studying type 2 diabetes, and in this article we bring to light some tools that may change that. It is very relevant that this condition can be better clarified, and also help the development of new and more effective drugs and treatments. For this purpose, gene regulatory networks, as well as bioinformatics tools capable of using them in conjunction with genetic variants, are of enormous value. These tools can accelerate the pace of discovery in this area, as well as the challenge of understanding the functionality and global regulation of type 2 diabetes.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
