Os autores relatam a experiência com dez pacientes portadores de dor visceral abdominal alta, decorrente de tumores da cabeça do pâncreas, cisto do pâncreas, tumores das vias biliares, do estômago e do cólon e metástase abdominal, submetidos à neurólise do plexo celíaco, por via póstero-lateral, com álcool absoluto, sob neuroleptoanalgesia e controle radioscópico. Utilizando-se uma agulha de aortografia, tipo Santos, a cada lado, procedeu-se à neurólise bilateral do plexo celíaco, entrando-se a 8 cm da linha média, a altura do corpo vertebral de L1, na interseção da última costela e a uma angulação de 45º com a horizontal. Previamente à introdução do agente neurolítico, a cada lado, foram injetados 5 ml de xilocaína a 2% sem vasocontrictor, com a finalidade de obter confirmação clínica do perfeito posicionamento da agulho pelo desaparecimento da dor e pela hipotensão arterial leve. Após à injeção do álcool absoluto, introduzimos corticosteróides de depósito, a cada lado, para redução da nação inflamatória e da dor local. Todos os pacientes apresentaram melhora imediata da dor, sendo hipotensão arterial a complicação mais frequente, não lendo havido complicações neurológicas.
