Znanstvena monografija Odprta scena opisuje dogajanje, povezano s pojavom prve (vidnejše) odprte scene uporabnikov drog v Ljubljani in Sloveniji (od leta 2017), ter mobilizacijo, povezovanje in strokovno delovanje mreže nevladnih organizacij, ki v Ljubljani delujejo na področjih uporabe drog in brezdomstva. Odprta scena je pojav vidne in javne uporabe prepovedanih drog, ki ni le posamična in občasna, ampak postane na določeni lokaciji razmeroma množična in ustaljena ter je velikokrat povezana z vedenjskimi manifestacijami, ki so za javnost oz. mimoidoče izrazito moteče. V Ljubljani je odprta scena nastala potem, ko so porušili zid, ki je pred javnostjo skrival večje zapuščeno dvorišče, kjer so se že veliko let pred tem zadrževali uporabniki drog. Po porušenju zidu in po odločitvi o spremembi namembnosti lokacije so se uporabniki drog iz tega skritega mesta razpršili po mestu na več odkritih lokacij, pred zdravstveni dom in bližnjo trgovino, v bližnji park, pred nekatere organizacije, ki so ponujale storitve zanje, in tam postali za javnost precej bolj moteči, kot so bili prej.Na pritožbe javnosti nad vidnim in motečim brezdomstvom (ne glede na to, ali so brezdomni uporabljali droge ali ne) se je že leta 2015 odzvala tudi Mestna občina Ljubljana. Naročila je izvedbo poizvedovalne terenske (raziskovalne) akcije, s katero naj bi detektirali problematične lokacije, značilnosti in potrebe ljudi, ki se zadržujejo na njih, in ki naj bi potekala v sodelovanju štirih nevladnih organizacij, ki so dotlej izvajale terensko delo za brezdomne in uporabnike drog v Ljubljani. Ta akcija in poznejši pritiski in pobude ob vzniku odprte scene leta 2017 so povzročili oblikovanje večletnega procesa povezovanja, izmenjav izkušenj in pogledov ter delno tudi akcijskega koordiniranja, ki ga urednici opisujeta kot rezultat oblikovanja »trdne jedrne skupine, ki je vztrajala in vzdrževala intenziven dialog s številnimi akterji v Knjižna recenzija
