This study deals with the experimental micro-vibration control of a flexible beam mounted on an elastic base. The optimal independent modal space control (IMSC) is applied for modal decoupling of the system and design of the vibration controller. An optical sensor is employed for vibration feedback of the beam system, whereas a voice coil motor is utilized to serve as an actuator for micro-vibration control. The study demonstrates that excessive vibration in the micro level of the beam system can be successfully suppressed by the optimal IMSC approach and the hardware configuration developed in this work. An experimental proof has also been provided for the severe instability problem arising from the application of the approach proposed by the pioneer developers of the IMSC technique.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
