EUKLIDISCHEN RIEMANNSCHEN MANNIGFALTIGKEITEN Riemannsche Riiume konstanter Kriimmung und deren Riemannsche Produkte haben die Eigenschaft, lokal zu euklidischen R~iumen konform zu sein. Andererseits ist klar, dab es viele Riemannsche Mannigfaltigkeiten gibt, die lokal zu einem euklidischen Raum konform sind, jedoeh nicht konstante Kriimmung besitzen. Es stellt sich nun die Frage, durch welche geometrischen Eigenschaften R~iume konstanter Kriimmung oder deren Riemannsche Produkte unter den lokal konform euklidischen Riemannschen Mannigfaltigkeiten ausgezeichnet sind. M. Obata [6] bewies den folgenden Satz: Ist (S", #) eine euklidische n-Sph~ire vom Radius 1 und g* eine Riemannsche Metrik auf S ", die mit einer C~°-Funktion Q:S ~--, R durch die Beziehung #*=e2Q9 aus g erhalten wird, also zu # konform und damit lokal konform euklidisch ist, dann ist die Kriimmung von 9" genau dann konstant, wenn die SkalarkriJmmung von g* konstant ist. Obata betrachtet zum Beweis dieses Satzes die Laplacesche yon e-Q; eine wesentliche Voraussetzung in diesem Satz ist also, dab ein global definierter konformer Diffeomorphismus auf einen Raum konstanter Kriimmung schon existiert. Auf diese Voraussetzung soil hier verzichtet werden. Anstelle yon e -Q werden gewisse Kombinationen der elementarsymmetrischen Funktionen der Ricci-Kriimmungen einer Riemannschen Mannigfaltigkeit betrachtet. DaB die Betrachtung dieser Funktionen zum Erfolg fiihrt, liegt daran, dab der Tensor L, der die 'Abweichung' des Ricci-Tensors vonder Metrik der betrachteten Riemannschen Mannigfaltigkeit angibt (s.u.), fiir lokal konform euklidische Riemannsche Mannigfaltigkeiten Codazzi-Gleichungen erfiillt und deshalb die verallgemeinerten Weylschen Identit~iten in [8] sowie yon H. F. Mtinzner in [5] fiir die elementarsymmetrischen Funktionen der Eigenwerte yon L gelten. Die damit abgeleiteten S/itze werden von dem folgenden Typ sein: Ist M eine zusammenh/ingende kompakte lokal konform euklidische Riemannsche Mannigfaltigkeit nichtnegativer Ricci-Kriimmung bzw. positiver Schnittkrfimmung und eine gewisse Kombination der elementarsymmetrischen Funktionen der Ricci-Kriimmungen von M konstant, so ist M Raum konstanter Kriimmung oder Riemannsches Produkt eines Raumes konstanter Kriimmung mit einer 1-Sph/ire.
