M6 Web, filiale de M6, a été créée en 2000 dans l'objectif de développer des sites Internet liés à la chaine. Très rapidement, ses activités se sont diversifiées pour traiter de la problématique plus large de la mobilité (Internet mobile, jeux et votes par SMS, téléchargements de produits de personnalisation, M6 Mobile by Orange). Bérangère Brial a intégré l'équipe de M6 Web dès ses débuts. Elle fait le point sur dix ans de pratique du marketing à travers le push SMS. En particulier, elle fait part des recherches menées au sein de M6 Web pour améliorer l'efficacité de ce media et ouvre des perspectives sur l'avenir du marketing mobile. DM: Dans quel contexte le SMS en tant qu'outil marketing est-il apparu ? Ce sont les banques et les courtiers qui ont été pionniers dès 2001 dans l'utilisation du SMS en tant qu'outil marketing, en proposant à leurs clients des services a forte valeur ajoutée, comme recevoir des alertes spécifiques (relevés de compte, cours boursiers). Et évidemment les émissions de téléréalité, qui, comme Loft Story ou la Star Ac, ont adopté ce media dès 2001. Mais l'apparition du SMS comme outil de marketing direct n'a réellement eu lieu qu'a partir de 2005, au moment de l'entrée en phase de maturité du marché du téléphone portable, avec 75 % de pénétration (en juin 2006, on recense 49,1 millions de Français avec un mobile, soit 81,3% de pénétration). Dès lors, les exemples d'annonceurs utilisant ce media touchent tous les secteurs traditionnels, comme l'alimentaire, l'hygiène-beauté, etc. On peut dire qu'aujourd'hui quasiment tous les secteurs sont représentés dans les campagnes de push SMS. La frilosité des annonceurs envers le marketing mobile jusqu'en 2004-2005 peut s'expliquer par deux facteurs : d'une part, l'emballement en 2000 pour le media Internet; d'autre part, le développement avorté du wap dans les mêmes années. D'ailleurs, le terme de wap, encore souvent connoté négativement car associé à cet échec, a été remplacé par Internet Mobile en 2003-2004. DM : Quels sont les objectifs spécifiques assignés au «push SMS» ? Les campagnes de push SMS peuvent poursuivre cinq grands objectifs. Tout d'abord, elles peuvent viser à développer la notoriété de la marque. En effet, le push SMS permet de faire une campagne de masse : des fichiers opt-in de plusieurs centaines de milliers de numéros de mobiles sont disponibles sur le marché (la plus grande base étant celle d'Orange Publicité qui possède 1,3 million de numéros). L'annonceur peut aussi chercher à développer l'image de sa marque. En effet, le push SMS donne une image jeune, moderne, technologique à la marque qui l'utilise pour communiquer. Une marque peut ainsi se mettre à la portée des jeunes, mais aussi des CSP+ qui sont souvent en situation de mobilité (voyages d'affaires, rendezvous a l'extérieur, etc.) Un troisième objectif concerne la prospection et augmentation du trafic en magasin.
