Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyse the influence of operations and processes on performance of manufacturing firms in Kenya. Methodology: In this study, descriptive and cross-sectional research designs were used. According to the directory, there are 461 large-sized registered members. In order to sample 160 large industrial companies from the entire population, this study used Cochran's formula. Data was gathered using a standardized questionnaire, and both qualitative and quantitative analysis were performed on it. Both a descriptive and an inferential data analysis were used in this investigation. Tables, graphs, and pie charts were used to present the analysed data. Results: The findings of the study revealed that the relationship between operations and processes and performance was significant at 5% level of significance. The model summary in the hypothesis testing revealed that the R2 for the model was 0.305. This is to imply that 30.5% of the variations in performance of manufacturing firms in Kenya are as a result of operations and processes. The p-value for the variable was 0.000 which is less than the standard P-value of 0.05. This is to mean that operations and processes had a significant influence on the performance of manufacturing firms in Kenya. To this end, we therefore, reject the null hypothesis that there is no significant relationship between operations and processes and performance of manufacturing firms in Kenya. Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: While the existing Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) Model used in this study was validated, the study recommends that the policy makers and management of manufacturing firms should come up with policies and legislations that cover the concept of supply chain operations and processes as an essential driver to the performance of the manufacturing sector in the country. The policy makers hold a major role in determining how key sectors such as the manufacturing sector are run. The regulators and the legislators formulate policies and guidelines that guide on how manufacturing firms should carry out their operations including supply chain processes. The study also recommended that manufacturing firms policy makers should develop a policy and regulatory framework to accelerate effective implementation supply chain processes and operations to enhance their performance.
The aim of this study was to establish the role played by financial resource mobilization in enhancing sustainable access to water in arid and semi arid areas in Kenya. Access to water is instrumental in driving economic development and stimulating the productivity of a country’s population. Lack of safe and clean water has been a major challenge to most of the Kenyan households, especially those in arid and semi arid areas. Ensuring adequate financial resources would be essential to stimulate implementation of key programmes that ensure sustainable access to water. This study specifically sought to assess the role played by resource mobilization skills, government funding, external funding sources, budgeting and planning and accountable use of financial resources on the sustainable access to water in arid and semi arid areas in Kenya. Using a crosssectional research approach, the study surveyed 20 respondents drawn from two main water development agencies in Kenya. A structured questionnaire was used to collect the primary data. The data was analysed using descriptive statistics and findings presented in tables. The results reveled that financial resource mobilization skills were essential in promoting sustainable access to water. The study further revealed that government funding from both national and county governments were essential in ensuring implementation of water programmes aimed at enhancing access to water. External sources of funds were also found to be critical in enhancing sustainable access to water. The study recommends that the government should increase allocations to the water agencies so as to promote the implementation of key programmes for enhancing sustainable access to water in arid and semi-arid areas. Accountability should also be upheld so as to ensure that the financial resources are responsibly utilized for sustainable access to water in the arid and semi arid areas.
Early supply involvement is the process of engaging the supplier early enough before the orders are placed to identify the best approaches to use as both parties to meet the customer needs and reduce lead time and waiting time. This paper seeks to establish the influence of early supplier involvement on the supply chain performance of food and beverage processing companies in Kenya. Food and beverage processing companies have been at the stake of declined performance which has mainly been among other reasons as result of continued poor customer satisfaction and increased operational costs. This paper therefore seeks to assess the role played by early supplier involvement in the supply chain performance of these firms. A descriptive survey research approach was used in this study where the target population was 187 food and beverage processing companies in Kenya. A purposive sampling was used to ample 153 food and beverage processing companies in Nairobi. The heads of procurement in these companies were surveyed using a structured questionnaire. The collected data was analysed through descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS. The findings from the study revealed that the involvement of suppliers early in designing the products and sharing with the suppliers the right information on customer specifications early reduce lead time. The study concluded early supplier involvement, process automation had a positive and significant influence of supply chain performance of food and beverage processing companies hence these companies through the management should uphold early supply involvement through sharing information with the suppliers and consulting them when designing and seeking raw materials for the production of customers’ orders. The findings from this study would be significant to the supply chain practitioners, the manufacturing sector in Kenya, the policy makers and the academic and research fraternity.
