some disorders and conditions can put a mother or baby at a higher risk for problems, which requires management by a specialist to help ensure the best outcome of the pregnancy. But it is a big challenge in the case of the rural women in urban China, considering their low income, unstable residence and employment, level of knowledge and awareness of maternal health-care. In this paper, a role-based e-health system with knowledge management and m-health technology is proposed and implemented. The roles in the system include the patients, the specialists in maternal-fetal medicine, the maternal healthcare providers (e.g., general practitioners) and the data center service provider. The system is used by approximately 100 ruralto-urban pregnant women in Fengtai District, Beijing, and the experience shows the feasibility of an early-step use of knowledge management and m-health technology in high-risk pregnancy care efforts.
